How much do iges jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 26, 2026, the average hourly pay for iges in the United States is $30.96, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $25.48 and $34.86 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are IGES and what do they do?

IGES stands for Initial Graphics Exchange Specification, which is a file format used to exchange digital CAD (Computer-Aided Design) data between different software applications. IGES files store 2D and 3D geometry, wireframes, surfaces, and annotations, making it easier for engineers and designers to share designs across various platforms. It is commonly used in industries such as engineering, manufacturing, and architecture to ensure compatibility and collaboration between different CAD systems.

What is the difference between Iges vs Mechanical Drafter?

AspectIgesMechanical Drafter
Required CredentialsTypically a certificate or associate degree in CAD or engineering technologyAssociate degree or technical diploma in drafting or CAD design
Work EnvironmentDesign firms, manufacturing, engineering departmentsManufacturing, engineering, construction companies
Industry UsageCommonly used in engineering and manufacturing sectorsWidely used in mechanical design and product development
Search & Comparison IntentOften compared for CAD and drafting roles in engineeringCompared for technical drafting and design positions

Both Iges and Mechanical Drafters work closely in engineering and manufacturing environments, often using CAD software. Iges typically refers to a file format used in 3D modeling, while Mechanical Drafters create detailed technical drawings. Understanding their differences helps clarify roles in the design process and the tools used in each profession.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IGES (Initial Graphics Exchange Specification) Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an IGES Specialist, you need expertise in computer-aided design (CAD), a solid understanding of geometric modeling, and experience with file format interoperability, typically supported by a degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software (such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA), IGES file conversion tools, and data exchange standards is essential. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills ensure accurate data translation and seamless collaboration across engineering teams, which is critical for product development and manufacturing processes.

What are some common challenges faced by IGES data analysts when working with complex CAD models?

IGES data analysts often encounter challenges related to data compatibility and integrity when handling complex CAD models. File translation errors, missing geometry, or loss of feature definitions are common, especially when moving files between different CAD systems. Analysts must pay close attention to data validation and may need to use specialized software tools to repair or optimize IGES files. Effective collaboration with design engineers and regular communication can help address these issues and ensure accurate model exchange.

Job description

Company Description FabTek Industries is a U.S.-based fabrication partner with over 50 years of experience serving the power and utility sector. The company is rapidly growing as a trusted market leader for transformer cabinets, bus duct for data centers, and substation support frames, all manufactured in-house for durability and quality. FabTek combines a strong manufacturing legacy with an energetic leadership team focused on scaling U.S. production without compromising service standards. The organization supports transformer OEMs, public and investor-owned utilities, EPC contractors, and industrial and hyperscale data center customers. Team members join a collaborative environment dedicated to precision, long-term partnerships, and dependable delivery.

Role Description The Design Drafter is a full-time, remote role responsible for turning engineering and customer requirements into accurate and manufacturable drawings. This role prepares detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings for transformer cabinets, bus duct systems, substation support structures, and related components, ensuring they meet specifications, industry standards, and internal quality guidelines. Daily work includes interpreting sketches, technical documents, and specifications; collaborating with engineering, project management, and production teams; and updating drawings based on feedback or design changes. The Design Drafter will maintain drawing libraries, apply standard drawing templates, and support documentation for fabrication and assembly. This position also contributes to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline drafting workflows and enhance clarity and consistency across design documents.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of drafting/detailing experience in sheet metal fabrication, weldments, or structural metal (job-shop / contract manufacturing strongly preferred over pure OEM product design).
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and 2D drafting (AutoCAD or equivalent); ability to import and work from customer STEP/IGES/native files.
  • Working knowledge of sheet metal flat-pattern development and bend allowances/deductions, and an understanding that these are tooling- and machine-specific.
  • Fluent in reading and interpreting fabrication prints, GD&T, weld symbols, and finish callouts.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clean, build-ready BOMs and cut lists.
  • Strong attention to detail with a documented track record of low drawing-error and rework rates.Strong technical drawing skills, including Drawing and Technical Drawing, with the ability to translate concepts into clear, detailed plans.
  • Proficiency in Engineering Drawings and Architectural Drawings, with experience reading and producing layout, section, and detail views.
  • Hands-on experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) and adherence to drafting standards.
