Job description

About IEX:

IEX is an exchange operator and technology company dedicated to innovating for performance in capital markets. Founded in 2012, IEX launched a new kind of securities exchange in 2016 that combines a transparent business model and unique architecture designed to protect investors. Today, IEX applies its proprietary technology and experience to drive performance across asset classes, serve investors, and advocate for transparent and competitive markets.

About the Role:

As a Software Development Engineer in Test Intern with the QA Technology team, you'll work with individuals across the organization to help advance IEX's technology development, exchange product, and regulatory initiatives. This is a cross-functional opportunity where you'll be able to leverage your technical and problem-solving skills to help IEX set new standards and raise the bar for performance, fairness, and transparency. As an intern, you'll build and improve tooling to help test the entire IEX exchange platform, learning everything you can about order types, queue priority, and equities execution in general.

No prior finance experience is necessary - just an appetite to dive deep into programming and learn as you go!

About You:
  • Self-starter
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Innovative solution finder
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Collaborative team player
  • Comfortable engaging, communicating, and working across business lines
  • Effective written communicator
  • Committed to building fairer and more transparent markets
What You'll Do:
  • Learn how we interact with the IEX Exchange using our existing platform
  • Develop dashboards and tooling to help enhance the platform - this will be a full-stack project
  • ...or find a better set of enhancements based off your view of the platform, we're always open to new ideas!
  • Work closely with the Core Development, Data Engineering, Market Ops, SRE, Business Development, and Regulatory teams to gather requirements and see how they use our platform. If there's anything we can build to make their jobs easier - let's do it!
Your Background:
  • Proficient in Java (JavaScript, Node.js, SQL, a plus.)
  • Tech savvy and comfortable with scripting, building, deploying, and configuring software in a Linux environment
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle
  • Ability to be confronted with something new and learn as much as you can, as quickly as possible
  • Familiarity with financial markets is helpful, but not required
  • Culture fit (Think Big, Do Good/ Win Together/ Be Gritty/ Invent & Reinvent)
Bonus Points:
  • Interest in market structure and electronic trading

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting annual base pay is [$45.00/hour for this NY-based position. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The annual base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is eligible for bonus and equity.
