Job description

Indiana Literacy Cadre Coaching Description

Purpose of Position

The Indiana Literacy Cadre Coach will strengthen K-8 tier one literacy instruction through data-driven instructional coaching and job-embedded professional learning. The Indiana Literacy Cadre Coach will partner with school leaders and staff to leverage local data for job-embedded literacy coaching aligned with science of reading to meet the needs of all students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

● Participate in all professional learning and training provided by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE)

● Collaborate with the Literacy Coach Specialist (LCS)

● Coach educators in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade by

○ modeling evidence-based instructional practices aligned with science of reading;

○ facilitating job-embedded professional learning, based on data, aligned with science of reading;

○ utilizing data when assisting in instructional planning and making recommendations for adjustments with individuals and groups of teachers;

○ creating plans, goals, and action items to address and monitor areas of improvement through instructional coaching;

○ supporting educators in instructional practices across tiers of instruction in a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) framework; and

○ ensuring that student achievement and growth data is routinely collected, reported, and used to drive instructional decisions at the school and classroom levels

● Collaborate with school leaders and stakeholders to model continuous learning, maintain current progress, and serve as a thoughtful leader for student literacy in the school

● Build, establish, and maintain relationships with a wide array of stakeholders, including teachers, as well as school and district leaders

● Engage in ongoing professional learning to ensure they are informed of the latest and most impactful research and coaching techniques aligned with science of reading

● Maintain current school-level data and anecdotal records on coaching cycle aligned to science of reading and gather both survey and local assessment data as required by the

IDOE (This position needs to be approved through the DOE so these requirements are not negotiable)

● Assist administrators and teachers in the development of a schoolwide reading plan and strategies for monitoring the implementation of the plan

● Create and maintain a shared coaching calendar, making the calendar accessible to teachers, administrators, and the cadre leadership team

● Perform duties in compliance and accordance with all IDOE requirements, district requirements, and Board of Trustees policies

Credentials

● Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred; minimum of five years of teaching experience with preference given to same grade level(s) for coaching

● Expertise in implementing evidence-based instructional practices aligned with science of reading

● Experience in instructional coaching

● Hold a valid, professional Indiana Teacher’s License; Early Literacy Endorsement is required for coaches serving elementary schools
