Company Description:

A world leader in water treatment solutions, IDE specializes in the development, engineering, construction and operation of desalination, water reuse, and industrial water treatment plants.


General Role Description:

Under general direction, performs professional duties ensuring compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations and insurance requirements pertaining to Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) program development and administration.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain a variety of company EHS programs and initiatives.
  • Monitor regulatory requirements/trends, conduct impact analyses, and implement programs to ensure compliance with both regulatory and company standards.
  • Ensures that all applicable internal and external EHS reporting requirements are performed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Conduct routine site audits of all EHS equipment, materials, work practices, and procedures to ensure compliance with company’s safety program.
  • Perform EHS risk and vulnerability assessments for work processes and equipment.
  • Identify and communicate critical observable actions associated with operational and maintenance activities at various facilities.
  • Develops accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the organization.
  • Investigate hazards, near misses and incidents with the goal of finding root causes and implement improvement/action plans to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents and prepares reports.
  • Develops accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the organization.
  • Prepare site-safety administrative records and other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Communicate compliance status, key performance Indicators, trends, priority issues and business impact to key stakeholders.
  • Develops, maintains and provides ongoing EHS related training and required certifications.
  • Develop solutions to implement improvements to EHS issues/challenges.
  • Guide and direct departments toward compliance with local, state and federal regulations, and corporate compliance polices.
  • Communicate with contract companies regarding EHS related issues.
  • As needed develop and prepare safe work practices, procedures and job hazard analyses (JHA’s).
  • Perform with self-motivation, strong initiative and creative problem solving.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:


Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health and safety or related field.
  • EHS Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for either a Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field and two (2) years of relevant work experience or an Associate’s degree and four (4) years relevant work experience within EHS at a utility and/or large-scale process plant.


Professional Training/Certification

  • Ability to obtain/maintain a valid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automatic external defibrillator (AED) and first aid certification within three (3) months of duty assignment.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a valid Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification issued by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) within six (6) months of duty assignment.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a valid hazardous waste operator and emergency response (HAZWOPER) 40 and Supervisor certification within nine (9) months of duty assignment.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a valid Cal-OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer certification within twelve (12) months of duty assignment.
  • State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Water Treatment and/or Distribution certification highly desirable.


Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of relevant laws, regulations and standards as well as current issues impacting functional responsibilities is essential.
  • Direct experience dealing with regulatory agencies, officials and/or compliance officers is required.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and set clear objectives when faced with conflicting demands.
  • Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems through written and/or Experience working in a complex water treatment plant or production environment.


Salary range is expected to be between $75,000 to $85,000 but may be higher or lower dependent upon combination of education and experience.
