What are some common challenges faced by industrial designers when collaborating with engineering and marketing teams?

Industrial Designers often face the challenge of balancing aesthetic vision with practical constraints set by engineering and marketing teams. Effective communication, flexibility, and a willingness to iterate on concepts are key to navigating these interdisciplinary collaborations and ensuring the final product meets both creative and practical goals.

Creativity, attention to detail, and strong communication skills set standout designers apart in collaborative and client-focused environments. These skills are crucial for developing innovative, functional products that meet user needs and succeed in the marketplace.

What is an id?

In a professional context, 'IDs' typically refer to 'identification documents' or 'identifiers' used to verify a person's identity. We are looking for P&ID Drafters and Senior P&ID Designers who demonstrate strong ownership, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality. These individuals should be capable of producing accurate, drafting-ready P&IDs with minimal supervision while helping improve overall project execution and drawing quality. We are interested in both mid-level and senior candidates.

* This position is intended to begin as a contract assignment with the opportunity to become direct, provided there is a strong mutual fit for both client and the candidate.

* Pay rate will be based on experience level, demonstrated technical capability, leadership potential, and total contribution to the team.

Candidate Behaviors We Are Targeting

· Performs thorough self-checks before submitting work.

· Identifies errors, conflicts, and missing information independently.

· Asks questions early rather than making assumptions.

· Understands the relationship between process, instrumentation, piping, and drafting.

· Consistently delivers accurate work requiring minimal rework.

· Maintains organized project files, drawing references, and supporting documentation.

· Demonstrates strong follow-through and accountability.

· Manages multiple priorities without compromising quality or accuracy.

· Works well with engineers, project teams, and other designers.

· Demonstrates a desire to continuously learn, improve processes, and expand technical knowledge.

· Shows leadership potential and a willingness to mentor less experienced personnel.

Preferred Background

· 5+ years of P&ID drafting/design experience.

· Strong AutoCAD and P&ID drafting/design experience.

· Experience working in EPC, petrochemical, gas processing, or industrial projects.

· Experience reviewing and incorporating engineering markups.

· Familiarity with standards, quality checking, and drawing coordination.

· Ability to work from controlled project inputs, including markups, references, specifications, and project standards.

Expectations

Mid-Level P&ID Drafter / Designer

Solid drafting execution, accurate markup incorporation, good self-checking habits, and willingness to learn client standards.

Reliable production support reduced basic drafting errors, and steady development toward stronger ownership.

Senior P&ID Designer

High technical accuracy, independent issue identification, strong project awareness, and ability to coordinate with engineers and designers.

Trusted technical support, improved quality, reduced rework, mentoring, and potential future leadership or quality responsibilities.

What Success Looks Like

· Drawings are accurate and complete before formal review.

· Questions are raised early and issues are resolved proactively.

· Standards compliance issues are minimal.

· Rework is reduced.

· Engineering and project teams have confidence in the quality of the work.

· The individual demonstrates growth potential for future technical leadership, quality, coordination, or supervisory responsibilities.
