Job description

Senior Mechanical Engineer (PE), Houston, TX or The Woodlands, TX
Halff has an opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineer, with their Texas PE License, to join our growing MEP Engineering team based out of one of our Houston area offices (The Woodlands, Houston). The ideal candidate would have at least 5 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering design using Trane Trace 700, or similar energy modeling tools. What you will do:
  • Responsible for managing and overseeing the design and construction of mechanical engineering projects.
  • Responsible for planning and preparing engineered contract documentation for assigned projects, working with or as a mechanical project manager to meet deadlines, aiding in or providing engineering decisions, and collaborating with other engineers, and/or owners.
  • Responsible for creating mechanical and plumbing project construction documents, plans, and specifications.
  • Plans projects based on the analysis of relevant materials such as drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, survey reports, maps, and other geologic and topographical data.
  • Responsible for on-site visits, as necessary, to collect existing condition information, attend meetings, respond to construction inquiries, and report on-site observations. Construction activities when necessary, may include shop drawing reviews, responding to RFI's, and site visits to generate observation reports.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining client relationships.
  • Will be responsible for the management of the complete design of mechanical projects.
  • Uses design software and drawing tools to accurately render and communicate designs.
  • Consults with and provides guidance to project stakeholders and managerial staff regarding engineering requirements for construction of various designs, modifications, and repairs.
  • Reports and presents plans to audiences with a wide range of backgrounds and technical knowledge, translating engineering and scientific information into easily digestible concepts.
  • Estimates materials, equipment, and labor needed to determine project costs.
  • Collaborates with surveyors (or directs and participates in surveying) to establish installations or reference points, grades, elevations, and other factors that will affect construction.
  • Monitors project progress and ensures design specifications, safety, and sanitation standards are met.
  • Conduct and manage design and plan production.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineers, EITs, and technical staff, fostering a culture of trust and collaboration within project team.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What you will need:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or ABET accredited equivalent engineering degree.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License in the state of Texas.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering design using Trane Trace 700, or similar energy modeling tools.
  • Large central plant experience is a plus
  • High-level interpersonal relationship skills, proficiency in communication skills, and organization skills.
  • Design-build experience is a plus.
  • Ability to manage large-scale projects.
