Job Description: The Skating Instructor will be responsible for delivering high-quality Learn to Skate classes and private skating lessons for youth and adult participants. This role requires an energetic, hands-on approach to skill development while maintaining a safe, structured, and positive environment on the ice.
Instructors must be comfortable working with true beginners, as well as more advanced skaters focused on refining skating mechanics. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, patience, adaptability, and the ability to tailor instruction based on individual skill level and learning style.
Applicants must have weekday afternoon/evening and weekend availability and be able to commit to a minimum of eight (8) coaching hours per week for classes and private lessons.
Key Responsibilities:
โ€ข Lead Learn to Skate classes for youth and adult participants in a structured, engaging, and developmentally appropriate format.
โ€ข Provide private and semi-private skating instruction.โ€ข Teach foundational skating skills, including balance, edge control, stride mechanics, stopping, crossovers, and transitions.
โ€ข Foster a safe, encouraging, and positive learning environment for all participants.
โ€ข Evaluate skater ability and adjust instruction to meet individual needs.
โ€ข Communicate professionally and effectively with parents, athletes, and staff.
โ€ข Uphold all safety standards and support the wellbeing of members, guests, and employees.
โ€ข Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled classes and lessons.
Qualifications:
โ€ข Minimum of 2+ years of skating and/or coaching experience (hockey, figure skating, or power skating).
โ€ข Experience teaching beginner skaters preferred.
โ€ข Ability to work effectively with young children, teens, and adults.
โ€ข Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
โ€ข Availability on weekday afternoons/evenings and weekend mornings.
