STATUS: SEASONAL (NON-EXEMPT)
ABOUT THE COMPANY:
Davis Center at the Harlem Meer is a brand new state-of-the-art recreational facility in New York City's iconic Central Park featuring a 1.25 acre outdoor area which houses an elliptical pool (280' x 120') that converts to a .75 acre public green during the spring & fall and features a full-size ice rink in the winter months. A 34,000 sq ft adjacent building houses locker rooms, public restrooms, and a large indoor gathering space to support all outdoor programming. Described by Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine as "one of the most important parks equity projects for the City in decades", the new Davis Center is the capstone project of the Central Park Conservancy's 40-year effort to restore Central Park and will serve as the hub for recreational and community programming in the area. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Operations Team Member is responsible for contributing to the daily operations, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all visitors at the ice rink and will play a crucial role in maintaining a fun and safe environment for guests of all ages and skill levels. The Operations Team Member is the first point of contact for all guests and is expected to provide excellent guest services to all guests and display a vast amount of knowledge of the facility's programs and offerings.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Provide excellent guest service skills including being respectful and friendly to our athletes, guests, visitors, spectators, leaders, and fellow team members
  • Knowledgeable about the facility, prices, services, promotions, and Provide courteous and friendly service and directions to all guests and staff as needed
  • Know and enforce the facility's policies, procedures, and rules
  • Assist in the setup, teardown and monitoring of the venue for daily events, including community skate sessions, practices, games and private rentals
  • Ensure games start on time and are scored accurately as assigned
  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the venue, ensuring everything runs smoothly and safely on a regular basis including making sure all facility areas including the ice surface are clean, safe, and guest-ready
  • Assist with emergency situations as needed
  • Assist skaters with the use of appropriate gear such as helmets and skates including beginners requiring guidance or individuals who have fallen and need assistance getting up
  • Actively monitor the ice and educate skaters about safety guidelines and rink rules while encouraging compliance to maintain a safe environment for all patrons
  • Communicate issues, relevant updates, and report all incidents, accidents, injuries, and altercations to General Manager, AGM, or MOD
  • Assist other team members or functional areas as necessary
  • Complete special projects, daily assignments, and other duties as directed by management

MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience and success in customer service, leadership, and organization
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of ages from preschool through adult
  • Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, holidays, and long hours) based on facility schedule
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Must have excellent guest service skills, be detail-oriented, have outstanding organizational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Previous customer service or ice arena roles are preferred
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to the safety and wellbeing of others

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor ice arena environment, which includes cold temperatures, weather conditions and varying noise levels for extended periods of time
  • Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, holidays, and long hours) based on facility schedule
  • May be required to skate for extended periods
  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time, whether indoors or outdoors
