What are ice services?

Ice services are specialized operations that provide information, monitoring, and support related to sea ice conditions, primarily for maritime navigation and safety. These services include the collection and dissemination of data on ice coverage, thickness, movement, and potential hazards to assist ships and offshore structures operating in polar or icy waters. Ice services are typically offered by national meteorological and oceanographic agencies and are crucial for safe navigation, environmental monitoring, and supporting research in polar regions.
