General Summary To supervise the facility and maintain safety for all patrons. The Ice Arena Monitor is responsible for ensuring a clean, safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for all ice arena guests by enforcing facility policies and procedures. This position assists with facility operations, program setup, ice maintenance, admissions, skate rentals, customer service, and general custodial duties to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the facility.
Ice Arena Monitors also provide information regarding facility programs, activities, and special events while supporting the overall operation of the ice arena. Essential Duties and Responsibilites Monitor the ice rink, skate rental area, arena lobby, spectator areas, and facility entrances to ensure patron safety and compliance with facility rules. Enforce facility policies, procedures, and safety regulations to maintain order and a positive environment for participants and spectators.
Address inappropriate behavior and take corrective action in accordance with established policies and procedures. Skate during public skating sessions while actively monitoring patrons and surrounding conditions. Assist with the setup and teardown of programs, events, and activities.
Operate the Admissions Office, including processing admissions, skate rentals, and customer transactions. Serve as a rink monitor during Junior A Hockey games and other special events. Provide excellent customer service and answer questions regarding facility operations, programs, and events.
Assist with routine facility maintenance, cleaning, and housekeeping duties. Additional Duties: Operate ice resurfacing equipment (Zamboni) following completion of required training. Monitor compressor system operations and maintain required equipment logs.
Assist with ice resurfacing and general ice maintenance. Perform other duties as assigned. Competencies for Successful Performance of Job Duties JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills and Mental Ability: Ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgment in stressful or emergency situations.
Ability to interact professionally and effectively with a diverse range of patrons, including children, teens, adults, and individuals exhibiting challenging behaviors. Strong customer service, communication, and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to enforce facility policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
Ability to work independently while maintaining awareness of facility operations and safety concerns. Ability to ice skate at a competent level and safely maneuver on the ice while monitoring activities. Ability to learn and safely operate facility equipment.Education, Certification, Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required
Previous experience working with the public or in a customer service environment preferred. Valid driver's license required. CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe after hire.

Exposure to cold temperatures associated with ice rink operations. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels during public skating sessions, hockey games, and special events. Frequent interaction with patrons of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
Requires the ability to remain calm, professional, and effective when dealing with difficult, upset, or disruptive individuals. Ability to respond appropriately in stressful or emergency situations. Exposure to cleaning products, ice maintenance equipment, and other facility related materials and equipment.
