Job description

THE PENNY ICE CREAMERY | Made From Scratch www.thepennyicecreamery.com Do you have an interest in culinary arts. Do you want to make delicious confections every day. The Penny Ice Creamery is seeking passionate individuals to join our kitchen production team

The Penny Ice Creamery is the only Ice Cream Shop in Santa Cruz that makes ice cream completely from scratch in house. We create unique, seasonal ice cream flavors made with locally sourced and organic ingredients. The Ice Cream Maker/Pastry Assistant is responsible for preparing all of the ingredients that go into our ice cream, and spinning and pasteurizing the ice cream.

Duties include cracking eggs, making syrups, jams, various confections, and preparing fruit and vegetables. Once you have shown your prep abilities, you'll be trained to spin ice cream using our Emery Thompson Batch Ice Cream Spinner. Once you master ice cream spinning, we will be able to train you to pasteurize and help you get your pasteurization license.

Anyone with a current pasteurization license is encouraged to apply. This position is available in our production kitchen at our Downtown Santa Cruz location (913 Cedar Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95060). Requirements Requirements Include: -Desire to make delicious ice cream, sorbet, and various confections on a daily basis.

-Preferably at least one year of experience with food preparation or kitchen work, but we will train the right person. -Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively. -Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize, and stay focused in a fast-paced production kitchen.

-Desire to learn more about locally sourced food and sustainable business. -Able to lift 50lbs repeatedly (making ice cream is a lot of heavy lifting). -Available for around 20 hours a week on a consistent basis.

-Able to be flexible in scheduling to meet production needs (certain shifts begin as early as 6:00AM; certain shifts go until 8:00PM). -Must be available to work through the 2026 Summer (now through August/September). -Must be available to work Saturdays.
