Job description

Overview
The Senior Ice Engineer will manage all Ice operations in the facility, in addition to maintaining HVAC aspects of the Enmarket Arena during events and non-event days. Position will manage all aspects of ice rink, including scheduling and training staff and help to control and monitor Enmarket Arena mechanical systems throughout the facility.
This role pays an annual salary of $70,000-$80,000

This position will remain open until July 10th, 2026.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop operating procedures that conform to corporate standards specific to the ice operations department at the Enmarket Arena.
  • Under guidance from the Chief Engineer, performs preventative maintenance and repairs on Enmarket Arena mechanical systems including, but not limited to building chillers, ice plant, pumps, boilers, air handlers and all other building assets as needed.
  • Overseeing part time operations staff members for facility setup, maintenance and ice installation.
  • Assist in managing facility maintenance program and development of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Train all employees in Zamboni resurfacing, fire/life safety and emergency procedures.
  • Oversee all purchases of Zamboni and ice sheet maintenance equipment. Assist in purchasing safety equipment, HVAC equipment.
  • Assist in presenting department reviews in weekly staff meeting.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with all departments.
  • Know and guarantee all laws, codes, ordinances, policies, procedures, risk management, safety precautions, rules/regulations and emergency procedures are followed.
  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing all Enmarket Arena mechanical systems.
  • Reading technical diagrams and blueprints.
  • Troubleshooting building systems using appropriate testing devices.
  • Repairing and replacing equipment, plumbing equipment, and fixtures.
  • Maintains and oversee departmental equipment; notify Chief Engineer as additional equipment is needed and schedule services required.
  • Oversee and monitor all ice events, conversion and housekeeping crews, provide team support as required. Ensuring proper scheduling of third-party employees on event and non-event days.
  • Investigate, analyze, and resolve operational problems and complaints.
  • Act as liaison between clients and facility contractors as needed.
  • Deliver timely and accurate information to operations staff for proper setup and ice maintenance at facility.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues, including Zamboni, forklift, golf carts, floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners and lawn equipment.
  • Preventative maintenance of Zamboni's, ice edger and blade changes.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance of all facility equipment
  • Assist with event load ins and load outs that are typically early in the mornings and/or late into the evenings.
  • Works with third party vendors and operations managers to upkeep Enmarket Arena.
  • Assist as needed in Ice installation, maintenance, operations, and coordination across all OVG Savannah properties including Port Wentworth Ice Cove, Vystar Pavillion, Johnny Mercer Theatre and any future projects.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's/Technical degree from an accredited college/university/school required.
  • Must possess a demonstrated basic knowledge of methods, principles, and practices required for the operation, repair, and maintenance of all systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical codes.
  • Preferred but not required to understand LEED Certified Buildings and take initiatives toward it.
  • Minimum four (4) years' experience in Ice Arena/Entertainment Venue Experience and facility and operations management.
  • Minimum of four (2) years' experience supervising/training personnel.
  • Related experience and/or training in the public assembly industry in a supervisory or management position.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including, early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and extended number of consecutive days.
  • Experience managing and training a team.
  • Proficient knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office software, standard office equipment including copier and fax machine.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services, and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facility.
  • Knowledge in a hockey facility required, including ice installation, Zamboni and ice edger. Possess a demonstrated knowledge of NHL/AHL/ECHL standard rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of operational characteristics of events, including crowd management and control techniques; fire and public safety regulations preferred.
  • Must possess a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend blueprints, drawings, and other related materials.
  • Operate equipment such as Zamboni, pallet jacks, golf carts, forklifts, boom lifts, scrubbing machines or other light power-driven equipment.
  • Self-motivated with excellent interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to function and make management decisions in a fast-paced high-pressure environment with strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.
