Provo City is looking for a seasonal Custodian to provide general labor and semi-skilled maintenance work in the cleaning and upkeep of the Peaks Ice Arena. Civic-minded, qualified applicants interested in supporting the Provo City community by performing the work described here are encouraged to apply.

What is the compensation?

Pay Rate: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour (depending on experience)

Part-time Provo City employees are eligible to contribute to individual retirement savings plans through the City (401k, 457, Roth IRA, and/or Traditional IRA) and receive the following great benefits: a) free admission to the Provo Recreation Center, Peaks Ice Arena Public Skating, and Provo Shooting Sports Park; b) a free Provo City Library Card; c) a 25% discount on Provo Recreation Center memberships (direct family only); and d) discounts from various local and national vendors.

What will I do?

  • Be responsible for working with other custodial staff in cleaning the facility, building interior, and offices.

  • Sweep, mop, and clean floors.

  • Clean and wash glass, woodwork, and windows.

  • Dust and clean furniture.

  • Clean ice sheet glass and surrounding arena areas.

  • Clean restrooms, locker rooms and other storage areas daily.

  • Assist other staff and perform other related work as required.

What are the minimum requirements?

  • Any training or experience that demonstrates an ability to perform the work.

  • Previous custodial work is desirable.

What are the hours and duration of this position?

Approximately 20 hours per week, Monday through Saturday, 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. OR 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Occasional Sundays. Schedule may vary and will be discussed in interview. This position is expected to run for the winter 2026 season from approximately August 22, 2026 to April 17, 2026.

What are the physical and environmental factors?

Work requires performing manual and physical labor; bending; climbing ladders; lifting medium to heavy objects; being exposed periodically to adverse weather conditions, caustic chemicals and cleaners; and performing other varied physical activities associated with the essential duties of the job.

What is the selection process?

This position is open until filled and will be closed when sufficient, qualified applications to proceed with a competitive selection process have been received (at least seven days). Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
