Job description

Job Description Join the City of Kettering's Parks Recreation and Cultural Arts team as a Temporary Part-time Assistant Facility Coordinator (Ice Arena). You can make an impact close to home and be a part of something bigger by joining our Recreation team. This position works up to 28 hours per week and requires a flexible work schedule that includes some nights and weekends. Examples of Duties Supervises the Kettering Ice Arena in the absence of the Arena Facility Coordinator; Maintains accurate records and reports (attendance, incident, in-service hours, daily and monthly maintenance logs); Responsible for opening, set-ups, tear downs, closing and securing the facility; Handles all money; Assists in the evaluation of Kettering Ice Arena employees; Assists in the development and supervision of new programs and special events; Handles, with good judgment, all grievances or disciplinary cases involving Kettering Ice Arena patrons or staff members; Responsible for ice maintenance such as power edging, hand edging, ice depths and quality of the ice surface; Maintains schedule for rental skates; Assists in the maintenance of skates, including sharpening skates; Assists with staff scheduling; Assists Arena Facility Coordinator in the development of a comprehensive in-service training program; Assists in covering nights and weekend shifts; Attends all staff meetings as requested by Supervisor; Operates and trains new staff on the ice resurfacing machine; Responsible for assisting with skate shop inventory and management; Carries out any assigned responsibilities relating to the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department as directed by the Arena Facility Coordinator, Arena Manager, Facility Manager or Director; Regular and predictable on-site attendance required; Must be able to establish effective working relationships and communicate with skaters, instructors, parents, Learn to Skate coordinator, City staff members, volunteers and the general public in a positive manner.

Typical Qualifications Considerable knowledge in ice arena management, methods, materials, tools and practices used in the operation, maintenance and supervision of the Kettering Ice Arena. Must be a current ice resurfacer operator. Ability to maintain records and to prepare reports.

Ability to direct and supervise subordinates and to maintain a positive working relationship with them for the efficient operation of the Kettering Ice Arena. Ability to promote and motivate the general public's interest in the services offered by the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. Considerable knowledge of the Kettering Ice Arena in relationship with the administrative function of the department.

Ability to exercise good judgment and function within the broad guidelines with a minimum of direction. Ability to assist in hiring and evaluating the work of subordinates. Ability to present ideas and recommendations in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing.

Must possess valid Ohio Driver's License. Needs to be certified in Standard First Aid and CPR for Professional Rescuer. Some experience preferred, but not required.

CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification preferred (will be provided if not current) or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess valid Ohio Driver's License
