Job Summary:

The Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach will serve as a fitness content expert and provide management and programming for an innovative, dynamic, and collaborative effort to promote a culture of integrated well-being. This position will be responsible for continuing the growth, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive movement and exercise programs. This position will serve as the primary strength and conditioning coach for 58 club sports and work closely with colleagues to market and evaluate movement experiences and programs. This position provides direct supervision to a team of student employees. The Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach reports to the Director of Mueller Center, RecWell and Club Sports.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field from an accredited institution
  • One (1) or more years experience working as a coach, assistant coach, or intern in the field of strength and conditioning
  • One of the following:
    • NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification
    • NSCA Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach certification
    • CSCCA Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified certification

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree inย Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field from an accredited institution
  • Experience training athletes of all abilities in a variety of sports
  • CSCCa - SCCC certificationย 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of strength training, speed, agility, flexibility, and cardiovascular conditioning
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate a variety of student-athletes
  • Ability to initiate, develop and maintain contacts appropriate to an effective strength and conditioning program
  • Ability to convey a clear and concise message while communicating, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures

Representative Job Duties:

  • Develop and implement an integrated health and wellness program model associated with strength and alternative options to increase the overall health and well-being of the campus community. Design and implement strength and conditioning programs for club sport teams, general student population, faculty, staff and other permitted to use the Mueller Center. Collaborate with Club Sport Athletic Trainer to develop rehabilitation programs for club athletes and with campus appointed medical director to assist individuals with specific health related needs to achieve lifestyle and fitness goals.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert by creating educational content and seminars on strength, conditioning, and wellness for students, faculty, and staff interested in learning more about general fitness.
  • Provide management, marketing, and evaluation of a comprehensive fitness program aligned with RecWell's eight dimensions of well-being. Expand Lift & Learn program for the general population, combining structured strength training sessions with brief educational components.
  • Work with Assistant Director, Fitness and Enrichment to expand group fitness opportunities to include dynamic weekly classes as part of the semester offerings. This includes the facilitation of strength-based classes hosted in the weight room.
  • Assess and evaluate programs using KPIs and both quantitative and qualitative data; prepare quarterly and annual reports with recommendations.
  • Supervise and monitor performance of student employees assigned to the Mueller Center weight room.
  • Recommend program related purchases, including fitness equipment, and assist with annual budget projections.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with students, staff, faculty, and community partners to advance a culture of integrated well-being.
  • Design all phases of training for club sports; including daily/weekly training sessions, assessing and evaluating athletes' physical performance, tracking progress, and adjusting programs accordingly. Provide education workshops that allow participants to practice movements, ask questions, and receive coaching feedback. Including incorporating nutrition into all aspects of the strength program including club sport athletes, students, faculty and staff.
  • Facilitate and teach weekly fitness classes as part of the semester offerings. Examples include: TRX workout, Circuit Training, Strength & Sculpt, and Functional Training.
  • Maintain relevant wellness certifications to expand wellness programming for the general campus populations (ex: NASM-CNC, NBC-HWC).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Starting Salary/Rate:

Expected hiring range: $62,354 / yr
