Your role and responsibilities

Your Role and Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Project Manager to work with clients on the development and management of a state-of-the-art data centers for their deployments of IBM Quantum computing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management and must have deep technical experience of implementing data center infrastructure projects. They will be responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing all IBM-related aspects of clients' data center projects, ensuring they meet the stringent requirements for hosting IBM Quantum computers.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Work with clients to develop and manage comprehensive project plans, including scope, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.

  2. Collaborate with client and IBM cross-functional teams, including IBM research and client hardware engineers, facilities engineers, and data center design and operations specialists, to ensure seamless preparation and integration of the data center infrastructure with IBM Quantum systems.

  3. Work with clients to advise and help plan their design, procurement, and installation of data center equipment, such as cooling systems, power distribution units, and network infrastructure, required to support IBM Quantum computers.

  4. When the datacenter will be leased by IBM, work with the client to understand and coordinate IBM safety and security requirements with IBM's local Global Real Estate and IBM Global Logistics teams to meet all in country compliance and legal requirements.

  5. Manage relationships with the client, IBM Quantum teams, vendors, contractors, and other IBM internal stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of project milestones and adherence to quality standards.

  6. Implement project management processes, tools, and methodologies to ensure efficient and effective project execution.

  7. Monitor clients' datacenter project progress, identify potential risks, and develop mitigation strategies to minimize delays.

  8. Prepare and present regular project status reports to senior IBM Quantum management and other IBM and client stakeholders, highlighting ongoing progress, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.

  9. Work with clients to ensure compliance with their data center standards, security policies, and environmental regulations.

  10. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the IBM and client project teams and across IBM Quantum computing initiatives.

Required technical and professional expertise

Required Professional and Technical Expertise

  1. Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer science.

  2. Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in project management, with a specific focus on planning and design of large data centers for high performance infrastructure and computing.

  3. Proven track record of successfully managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

  4. Strong understanding of data center design principles, especially power, cooling, and network infrastructure requirements.

  5. Familiarity with IBM's data center standards, security policies, and environmental regulations.

  6. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and manage cross-functional teams.

  7. Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies, such as Agile, Scrum, or PMP.

  8. The role will be located at IBM's Poughkeepsie, New York location which serves as a global hub for IBM's Quantum Network and technical team. The role will require frequent travel to client sites and other IBM Quantum locations, such as IBM Rochester, Minnesota.
