Position Summary
As a Senior Storage Administrator, you will join our Enterprise Infrastructure Platforms & Services team to support, scale, and optimize Optum's high-performance compute (HPC) and zSeries platforms. You will play a critical role in managing, designing, and administering mainframe storage environments utilizing cutting-edge systems such as IBM Flash Systems, Transparent Cloud Tiering, and Safeguarded Copy. In this role, you will also utilize enterprise-approved AI tools to analyze system data, drive workflow automation, perform capacity planning, and enhance overall system efficiency to support millions of critical healthcare transactions daily.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day LinuxOne Storage administration to support the storage environment for High Performance Compute (HPC) platforms.
  • Provide day-to-day zSeries Storage administration to support the storage environment for zSeries platforms.
  • Participate in a 24/7 rotating on-call support schedule for Optum's zSeries and LinuxOne Storage environments, resolving production issues reported or identified by automated monitoring systems.
  • Perform LinuxOne and zSeries Storage capacity planning to monitor space and take proactive steps to prevent operational issues.
  • Partner with application developers and platform teams to troubleshoot complex problems impacting critical business functions.
  • Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate repetitive tasks, analyze data, and provide recommendations for system optimization.
  • Leverage AI productivity tools (such as Microsoft 365 Copilot) to recap meetings, synthesize notes, and draft communication.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and the role of AI within infrastructure operations and storage engineering to drive continuous improvement.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement changes to the mainframe storage and replication environments, collaborating closely with other infrastructure teams.
  • Configure Storage Arrays (primarily IBM Flash Systems) to maintain replication and capacity.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree OR 4+ years of equivalent technology experience
  • 4+ years of experience working with IBM DASD technology
  • 4+ years of experience working with IBM DFSMS, DFHSM, and DFDSS
  • 1+ year Hands-on experience in a LinuxOne environment managing IBM Flash Systems from installation and configuration to day-to-day management and maintenance
  • 1+ years of Experience working with IBM VTS technology

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with x37 abend recovery tools (e.g., IBM Tivoli Advanced Allocation Manager)
  • 4+ years of experience managing and troubleshooting storage systems and all dataset types (including VSAM, sequential, PDS, and PDS/e)
  • 4+ years of experience coding SMS ACS Routines
  • Experience with REXX and/or SAS coding

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
