Job description

Overview

CTG is seeking a Mainframe Security Engineer to support and secure enterprise IBM z/OS environments for our client. This role is responsible for administering mainframe security controls, managing user access, supporting compliance initiatives, monitoring system activity, and protecting critical infrastructure from security threats and unauthorized access.

Location: Phoenix, AZ metro area (Hybrid working model)
Duration: 6 months with option to convert after 6 months
Citizenship Requirement: USC, Permanent Resident, or other EAD holders only (no visa-dependent candidates)

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain security controls for IBM z/OS mainframe environments
  • Configure and manage RACF, ACF2, and/or Top Secret security platforms
  • Implement RBAC, privileged access management, and user access controls
  • Monitor audit logs, security events, and system activity for potential threats
  • Perform vulnerability assessments and remediation activities
  • Support compliance initiatives including SOX, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, and NIST
  • Configure encryption, MFA, certificates, and secure communications
  • Automate security administration tasks using REXX, JCL, or scripting tools
  • Support incident response, forensic investigations, and disaster recovery planning
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, infrastructure, audit, and application teams
Required Skills
  • Strong experience with IBM z/OS security administration
  • Hands-on expertise with RACF, ACF2, or CA Top Secret
  • Knowledge of IAM, RBAC, and privileged access controls
  • Experience with mainframe security auditing and compliance
  • Familiarity with encryption technologies and MFA integration
  • Scripting and automation experience using REXX and JCL
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in mainframe security engineering or administration
  • Experience supporting enterprise or highly regulated environments preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field preferred
  • CISSP, CISM, or IBM security certifications are a plus
