Job description

Overview

CTG is seeking a Mainframe Network Engineer for our client.

Location: Phoenix, AZ metro area (Hybrid)
Duration: 6 months with option to convert after 6 months
Citizenship: US Citizens (USC), Permanent Residents (PR), and other EAD holders only (no visa-dependent candidates)

Overview

Responsible for designing, supporting, and optimizing enterprise mainframe network infrastructure. This role ensures secure, reliable, and high-performance connectivity between IBM mainframes (z/OS), distributed systems, cloud environments, and external partners in support of critical business operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, configure, and support mainframe network environments and connectivity solutions
  • Manage IBM mainframe communications including VTAM, TCP/IP, SNA, TN3270, and FTP
  • Troubleshoot complex connectivity issues and perform root cause analysis
  • Support z/OS network services and communication subsystems
  • Ensure secure connectivity including firewall, encryption, and access controls
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams across enterprise initiatives
  • Support disaster recovery, high availability, and business continuity planning
  • Perform performance tuning and capacity planning for mainframe communications
  • Maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures
  • Participate in incident response and change management processes
  • Support integration between mainframe, distributed, and cloud environments
Required Skills & Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in mainframe networking or enterprise infrastructure support
  • Strong expertise in IBM mainframe communications (VTAM, TCP/IP, SNA, TN3270, FTP)
  • Experience with z/OS networking and subsystem configuration
  • Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, and RCA skills
  • Knowledge of enterprise network security principles
  • Experience supporting hybrid mainframe and distributed/cloud environments
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
