POSITION SUMMARY
The IBM i / AS400 Software Engineer III is responsible for designing, developing, modernizing, and supporting business-critical applications on the IBM i platform. This role works closely with IT, Operations, and business stakeholders to enhance warehouse management and logistics systems, troubleshoot production issues, improve application performance, and deliver reliable solutions that support internal teams and external customers.
Salary Pay Grade Level 18
Salary Range $94,125 to $125,500
Essential Functions
  • Design, develop, maintain, and support applications written in RPG, RPGLE, Free-Form RPG, CLP, CLLE, and SQL on the IBM i / AS400 platform.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues within IBM i applications supporting warehouse management, customer operations, inventory, fulfillment, and logistics workflows.
  • Partner with business users, operations leaders, and IT teammates to translate requirements into practical, reliable technical solutions.
  • Support and enhance WMS-related applications, including AS400 functionality and integrations with broader logistics platforms.
  • Develop and maintain integrations using SQL, APIs, HTTP services, data exchange methods, and related integration patterns.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, unit test plans, deployment notes, and support procedures aligned to development standards.
  • Participate in code reviews, promote IBM i development standards, and identify opportunities to improve quality, maintainability, and performance.
  • Use change management tools such as ALDON / Rocket Aldon to manage source control, deployments, and production changes.
  • Identify modernization opportunities within legacy RPG applications while balancing operational stability and business continuity.

Education & Experience
  • 7+ years of software development experience, including significant hands-on experience with IBM i / AS400 application development and support.

  • BA/BS, preferably in Computer Science, MIS, IS/IT, or a related field. Or, equivalent experience.

  • Experience supporting WMS, logistics, transportation, 3PL, or supply chain systems preferred.

  • Experience supporting production systems in a high-volume operational environment preferred.
