LifeHealth, LLC a professional services company specializing in worksite wellness services, clinical staffing, and healthcare readiness is looking for NIOSH-Certified Spirometry Technicians responsible forperforming high-quality spirometric testing in occupational health settings in accordance with NIOSH and American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society (ATS/ERS) standardized procedures.

Position: NIOSH-Certified Spirometry Technician

Date: May 14th - 19th

Time: 7AM-7PM

Location: Leesburg, VA

Reimbursements:

Mileage: Paid at GSA rate after 30miles.

Tolls: Up to $12/day

Bonus: $100 to work all day shifts

Position Summary

This is a PRN, as needed position. The NIOSH-Certified Spirometry Technician is responsible for performing high-quality spirometric testing in occupational health settings in accordance with NIOSH and American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society (ATS/ERS) standardized procedures. This role requires a current NIOSH spirometry certification and involves conducting pulmonary function tests, equipment maintenance, employee education, and accurate recordkeeping under the supervision of a licensed physician or occupational health professional.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Spirometric Testing

  • Perform baseline, periodic, and exit spirometry testing on employees in compliance with OSHA respiratory protection standards (29 CFR 1910.134) and substance-specific standards (e.g., cotton dust, asbestos, silica)
  • Ensure all testing meets ATS/ERS acceptability and repeatability criteria
  • Coach and instruct employees through proper spirometry maneuvers (FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC)
  • Identify and document test quality indicators and refer substandard results for repeat testing
  • Recognize abnormal results and refer employees for physician review as appropriate

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot spirometry equipment per manufacturer specifications
  • Perform daily biological calibration checks and volume calibration using a 3-liter calibration syringe
  • Maintain complete and accurate equipment calibration logs
  • Ensure equipment is leak-free and functioning within acceptable tolerances before each testing session

Recordkeeping & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, confidential spirometry records in compliance with HIPAA and applicable OSHA standards
  • Complete required documentation, logs, and reports in a timely manner
  • Ensure records are stored and accessible for the duration required by regulatory standards
  • Support compliance audits, OSHA inspections, and medical surveillance reviews

Qualifications/Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Required

  • Current NIOSH-approved spirometry certification in good standing (must be renewed every 5 years per NIOSH requirements)
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy, nursing, or a related health field preferred
  • Strong communication and patient coaching skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to testing quality and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive medical information
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience with electronic health records (EHR)

Preferred

  • 1-2 years of experience in occupational health, pulmonary function testing, or a related clinical environment
  • Familiarity with OSHA respiratory standards including 29 CFR 1910.134 and relevant substance-specific standards
  • Knowledge of ATS/ERS spirometry quality guidelines
  • Experience with spirometry software platforms (e.g., ndd EasyOne, Welch Allyn SpiroPerfect, MedGraphics)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential a plus

Supervision & Scope

This position functions under the supervision of a licensed physician or occupational health professional. The spirometry technician does not independently interpret or diagnose pulmonary conditions but is responsible for obtaining high-quality, reliable test data for physician review and medical decision-making.
