Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Works with the Director of Safety and Operations to operate, maintain and assist with maintenance and repairs associated with the Hyperbaric Chamber System, engineering equipment, facilities, and all other ancillary support equipment within the Hyperbaric Treatment Center. Maintain and/or develop credentials and competencies; participate in HTC training and safety drills.

LOCATION: Kuakini Medical Center

HOURS: On-Call

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum:

  • High school graduate/equivalent or higher.
  • Current Certification for BLS from American Heart Association or will obtain the required BLS within 90 days of hire.
  • Training as a mechanic familiar with air compressors, pipefitting, welding, and oxygen gas mixture and/or specialized medical equipment maintenance with troubleshooting/calibration expertise.
  • Familiarity with hyperbaric environments.
  • Experience in diving, hyperbaric environments and/or a medical specialty.
  • Experience in military, commercial diving or medical equipment maintenance/calibration.
  • Keen understanding with ancillary equipment, chamber systems and/or life support units.
  • Familiarity with dive tables, national codes and standards pertaining to hyperbaric chamber systems and national occupational safety standards.
  • Familiarization with compressor, engineering, and pressure systems maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of oxygen and other gas mixture handling procedures as it pertains to chamber treatments.
  • Basic knowledge of diving medicine, diving physics, and patient medical care.

Preferred:

  • SCUBA certification
  • Certified Hyperbaric Technologist
  • Dive medical tech
  • EMT, Corpsman, Medic

EQUIPMENT USED

  • Standard office equipment (phone, typewriter, computer, fax, copier, calculator)
  • Multiplace hyperbaric chamber, compressed gases including oxygen and nitrogen, maintenance equipment
  • Power and hand tools

JOB CONDITIONS

  • Ability to work inside a chamber environment that is enclosed, confined space and pressurized.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Requires ability to lift 100 pounds (assisting incapacitated patients).
  • Physically capable to work inside a chamber environment.
  • Successful completion of diving physical exam.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Pay rate: Hyperbaric Chamber Operator Trainee - $18/hr. Hyperbaric Chamber Operator range of $27/hr. to $32/hr.
