Job description

Glass Shop Technician

Schedule:

Full Time: 6:00am – 2:30pm, Monday – Friday, Occasional overtime required

 

Position Summary: 

LECO’s Glass Shop is looking for a Glass Shop Technician.  The shop is located at 1400 Hill Top Road Global Support Building in Saint Joseph Michigan.  A successful candidate will be able to follow verbal instructions and procedures, communicate effectively and learn all aspects of the glass blowing trade. He/She will learn how to work with both Borosilicate and Quartz glass. This position also requires to learn the use of wet saw, hydrogen, natural gas and oxygen, computerized glass auto lathe, laser cutting machine, drill press, manual glass lathe, fire set up both burners and hand torches, and bench work. The work environment may be warmer than average.  The majority of the products handled average five pounds or less, occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.

 

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Become familiar with and follow the documented procedures in the quality system
  • Fabricate or prepare various glassware items and support parts on the bench and with the use of machinery (saw, lathe, and drill press), sometimes using fuel gas torches and burners, according to specified requirements on work orders, route sheets, and engineering drawings
  • Inspect own work
  • Inspect and package all goods manufactured in D-22 Glass Shop
  • Complete the transfer of finished goods
  • Material handling and performing inventory transactions on a mainframe computer terminal
  • May perform training duties
  • Work independently with a minimum of supervision
  • Perform other duties as required

  • Reading calipers and gauges
  • Decimal and metric system of measurement
  • Glass-working procedures
  • Quality processes

 

Education/Certifications: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
