How much do hydro mechanic jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 11, 2026, the average hourly pay for hydro mechanic in the United States is $25.14, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.95 and $28.85 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Hydro mechanics typically do not earn $2000 a day; such high daily earnings are more common in specialized roles like senior executives, certain consulting positions, or highly skilled contractors in industries such as oil and gas. Some freelance or contract jobs in engineering, construction, or technical fields can reach this level with extensive experience, certifications, and long hours. However, most hydro mechanic roles offer lower daily rates, usually based on hourly wages or project-based pay.

What are hydro mechanics?

Hydro mechanics, also known as hydraulic mechanics, are skilled technicians who specialize in the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of hydraulic systems and equipment. These systems are commonly found in industrial machinery, construction equipment, and vehicles that use fluid power to operate. Hydro mechanics ensure that hydraulic components such as pumps, valves, motors, and cylinders function efficiently and safely. Their work is essential in preventing system failures, reducing downtime, and keeping operations running smoothly.

What is a hydro mechanic?

A hydro mechanic is a skilled technician who repairs and maintains hydraulic systems used in machinery, vehicles, and equipment. They often work with pumps, valves, and cylinders, and may require knowledge of fluid dynamics and certifications in hydraulic systems. Their work environment typically includes industrial, construction, or transportation settings.

What is the highest paying type of mechanic?

Hydro mechanics, who specialize in repairing and maintaining hydraulic systems, tend to earn higher wages compared to general mechanics due to their specialized skills. Other high-paying mechanic roles include aircraft, diesel, and industrial machinery mechanics, especially those with advanced certifications and experience working in industrial or specialized environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Hydro Mechanic, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Hydro Mechanic, you need a solid understanding of hydraulic systems, mechanical repair, and troubleshooting, often supported by a technical diploma or apprenticeship in mechanical or industrial maintenance. Familiarity with tools like hydraulic test benches, torque wrenches, and diagnostic software is essential, and certifications such as Fluid Power Certification (IFPS) are often valued. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help Hydro Mechanics excel in both solo and team environments. These skills ensure safe, efficient maintenance and repair of hydraulic equipment, minimizing downtime and supporting operational reliability.

What are some common challenges faced by Hydro Mechanics when maintaining and troubleshooting hydraulic systems?

Hydro Mechanics often encounter challenges such as diagnosing complex hydraulic system issues, working in confined or remote locations, and managing high-pressure fluid systems safely. Keeping up with rapidly evolving technology and adhering to strict safety protocols can add complexity to daily tasks. Effective communication with engineers, operators, and other maintenance staff is also essential for timely problem resolution and minimizing equipment downtime.

What is the 160,000 mechanic job that Ford can't fill?

The $160,000 mechanic job likely refers to specialized roles such as heavy-duty or industrial equipment mechanics, including hydro mechanics working on large machinery or hydraulic systems. These positions often require advanced skills, certifications, and experience with complex systems, and they are in high demand due to a shortage of qualified technicians.

What is the difference between Hydro Mechanic vs Marine Mechanic?

The successful candidate will be responsible for turbine mechanical design, technical review and site commissioning support.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical design and review of hydro turbines (Francis, Kaplan, Pelton, etc.) and associated components.
  • Perform and review mechanical calculations including structural integrity, vibration, fatigue, and hydraulic load assessments.
  • Conduct or supervise finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations using tools such as ANSYS or equivalent software.
  • Support condition assessment, refurbishment, uprating, and modernization projects.
  • Prepare and review technical specifications, calculation notes, design reports, and drawings.
  • Support selection and sizing of turbine equipment and auxiliary mechanical systems.
  • Provide technical evaluation of vendor proposals and participate in technical bid assessments.
  • Review and approve manufacturer documentation and fabrication drawings.
  • Lead and/or support turbine commissioning activities, including installation supervision, testing, troubleshooting, and performance verification.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues during commissioning and operation phases.
  • Coordinate with electrical, civil, and control engineers for integrated hydropower plant design.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable IEC, ASME standards and relevant international codes.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and inspection documentation.
  • Provide construction support services including submittal review, site inspections, and quality assurance.
  • Attend client meetings (both virtually and in-person).
  • Travel as required but not expected to exceed 25%.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

What We Offer:

  • Opportunities for professional growth and career development.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid time off, 401(k) with company match, tuition reimbursement, and flexible work schedules.
  • This position pays between $120,000 and $165,000 annually and is an exempt position. Benefits offered include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plan with company match. Also offered are tuition reimbursement, voluntary life, disability, critical illness, accident and hospitalization plans. HSA or FSA medical accounts and FSA dependent care and transportation/parking accounts are also available. These benefits are subject to employee contribution amounts generally set annually. Full-time employees are eligible to earn PTO hours. May be eligible for discretionary bonus as determined by the company.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited university (with emphasis in stress analysis, mechanical design or turbomachinery).
    • Minimum 7โ€“12 years of experience in hydropower.
    • Strong experience in hydro turbine design and engineering.
    • Proven experience in turbine commissioning and performance testing.
    • Hands-on experience FEA and/or CFD software applied to hydro machinery.
    • Good understanding of rotor dynamics and mechanical behavior of rotating equipment.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical reporting skills.
    • Willingness to travel for site inspections and commissioning activities.
    • Must have a valid driver's license without restrictions.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
