The Role and Responsibilities

EnerMech have a new opportunity for a Hydraulic Technician, Tube Instrument Fitter to join the Fluid Power Products team in Houston. This role is responsible for the fabrication, installation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of stainless steel hydraulic and instrumentation tubing systems ranging from 1/4\" to 2\" in diameter. This position requires the ability to interpret engineering drawings and P&IDs, fabricate precise tubing runs, perform coning and threading for medium- and high-pressure tubing, install tubing supports, and ensure all hydraulic systems meet customer specifications and industry safety standards.

The Requirements Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install, bend, route, and secure stainless steel tubing from 1/4\" through 2\" OD.
  • Fabricate tubing assemblies using manual and hydraulic tube benders.
  • Measure, cut, deburr, clean, and prepare tubing for installation.
  • Cone and thread medium-pressure (MP) and high-pressure (HP) stainless steel tubing using manufacturer‑approved tooling and procedures.
  • Install MP and HP tubing connections, glands, collars, and pressure fittings in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Install compression fittings, pipe fittings, valves, manifolds, clamps, supports, and hydraulic components.
  • Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, P&IDs, isometric drawings, and fabrication drawings.
  • Ensure proper tube routing, spacing, support, bend radii, and fitting alignment to prevent vibration, fatigue, and leaks.
  • Perform pressure testing, flushing, and leak testing of hydraulic systems.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic systems and repair tubing, fittings, valves, and component failures.
  • Install and torque hydraulic fittings in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain hydraulic system cleanliness to minimize contamination and ensure system reliability.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on hydraulic equipment.
  • Operate tubing fabrication equipment including tube benders, coning and threading machines, flaring tools, saws, threaders, and pressure testing equipment.
  • Document completed work, inspection results, and pressure test records.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment while complying with company safety policies.
  • Travel to customer facilities and offshore/onshore job sites as required.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hydraulic tubing installation or related industrial experience.
  • Experience installing 316 stainless steel tubing from 1/4\" through 2\".
  • Experience coning and threading MP and HP stainless steel tubing.
  • Knowledge of medium- and high-pressure tubing systems and pressure-rated fittings.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, tube benders, and coning/threading equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of compression fitting systems such as Parker A-LOK, Swagelok, Hy-Lok, Autoclave Engineers, HIP, or equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, pipeline, offshore, or industrial environments.
  • Experience with hydraulic flushing, cleanliness verification, and hydrostatic pressure testing.
  • Experience assembling and testing hydraulic control panels, manifolds, and power units.
  • Forklift, aerial lift, or overhead crane certification.
  • TWIC Card.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and workmanship.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, fluid power principles, and pressure‑containing tubing systems.
  • Ability to fabricate neat, accurate, leak‑free tubing installations.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while meeting project deadlines.
