Job Description

Qualifications: The successful candidate shall demonstrate strong organizational, communication, human relations, instructional, classroom management, team and public relations/community skills. Applicants should have a sincere interest and a commitment to work with students, parents, staff, businesses, community organizations and associate district schools. Career-Technical or Vocational Certificate/License in HVAC or the ability to get one. Appropriate licensure/certification through the Ohio Department of Education. High School diploma, 5 years of recent verifiable work experience in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration with knowledge on basic plumbing preferred. Teaching and/or training classroom experience preferred.

Certification/Licensure: Applicants must hold a Standard Career-Technical Trade and Industrial Job Training HVAC/R Certificate/License; OR (the following options must be approved on a CTE-36 Qualification Evaluation Form by the district or on a CTE-37 Teacher Eligibility and Education Verification Form), have a high school diploma or GED and five years of approved work experience (10,000 hours with 6,000 hours completed within the last five years) in HVAC/R or a related field; OR have an Associate Degree in HVAC/R and three years of approved work experience (6,000 hours completed within the last five years) in HVAC/R or a related field; OR Baccalaureate Degree not in HVAC/R or Education and five years of approved work experience (10,000 hours with 6,000 hours completed within the last five years); OR Baccalaureate Degree in Education not in HVAC/R and five years of approved work experience (10,000 hours with 6,000 hours completed within the last five years); OR Baccalaureate Degree in HVAC/R and two years of approved work experience (4,000 hours completed within the last five years).

Applicants from industry will be required to complete state university/college teacher preparation course work. (A pre-employment three or four-week summer class at a selected state university/college is recommended if the applicant is not certified/licensed as a teacher.)

Duties: The HVAC/R Instructor will teach Junior and/or senior skills and knowledge in the field of HVAC/R & Basic Plumbing. Designs sequential instruction and learning activities to meet instructional goals. Prepare daily lesson plans. Maintain positive classroom management with consistent expectations for learning and achievement. Assist students in obtaining the skills necessary to be successful in the industry. Work closely with the immediate supervisor, advisory committee and academic teachers to coordinate instruction and to prepare students for successful completion of the HVAC/R & Plumbing program, promoting a safe learning environment. Plan, direct and evaluate the instructional process to best meet the needs of students. Proficient use of a personal computer. Actively engage with businesses for employment opportunities for students.

Contract: 2025-2026 Contract - 183 contracted days (Prorated)

Salary: Appropriate placement on 2025-2026 teachers' salary schedule based on certification/licensure, education/degree and experience.
