Job description

HVAC Mechanic — Ames Mechanical

Ephrata, PA | Full-Time

Take Your HVAC Career to the Next Level

Ames Mechanical has been serving Lancaster, PA, and all of southeast and south-central PA since 1974. Our plumbing and HVAC teams focus exclusively on commercial construction, renovation, and service & maintenance — from large-scale new construction and retrofits to replacement projects and repairs, our experienced pros handle it all.

We're looking for an experienced HVAC Mechanic to join our commercial installation team. This role is built for someone who can work independently, read a set of plans without hand-holding, and take pride in doing the job right. If you know your way around commercial HVAC systems and you're ready to mentor the next generation of installers, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do

As an HVAC Mechanic, you'll independently install heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems on commercial construction sites, while helping guide HVAC Helpers along the way.

  • Perform installation of HVAC systems — ductwork, furnaces, air handlers, condensing units, rooftop units, piping, and related components — with minimal supervision
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, submittals, and project documentation to independently lay out and install HVAC systems
  • Measure, fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork, piping, and equipment supports to project specifications
  • Set, connect, and start up HVAC equipment including furnaces, air handlers, condensing units, and rooftop units
  • Perform sheet metal fabrication and installation, including fittings, transitions, and duct connections
  • Install and calibrate controls, thermostats, and related HVAC components
  • Assist the HVAC Foreman with daily work planning, task coordination, and material needs on the jobsite
  • Identify and troubleshoot basic installation issues, communicating concerns to the Foreman or Supervisor as needed
  • Ensure proper jobsite setup, material staging, equipment usage, and housekeeping
  • Coordinate material needs and track deliveries, including timely submission of packing slips, receipts, and documentation
  • Conduct routine self-inspections of completed work to verify quality and safety compliance
  • Mentor and guide HVAC Helpers on installation techniques and safe work practices
  • Operate hand and power tools, lifts, and related equipment safely and efficiently
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and site-specific safety plans
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

  • 2–5 years of experience in commercial HVAC or mechanical construction
  • Working knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, installation methods, and industry standards
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and mechanical drawings
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools, sheet metal fabrication, and HVAC installation techniques
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Comfortable working in physically demanding environments — ladders, lifts, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions
  • Associate Degree in HVAC & Refrigeration Technology preferred
  • OSHA 10-hour training preferred
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (MVR background check required)

Why Ames Mechanical?

For more than 50 years, we've built our reputation on experienced pros who do quality work. As an HVAC Mechanic, you'll have the independence to run your own installations while playing a key role in developing the next generation of talent. As part of the Ames family of companies, alongside Ames Construction and Eby Exteriors, you'll join a team with deep roots in the Lancaster community and a strong safety culture.
