Location: Libertyville, IL

Work Arrangement: On-site


About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Molding Tooling Engineer with strong expertise in injection molding, mold design, tooling development, validation, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with hot runner injection molding systems and a background supporting medical products or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer moderately complex molds, jigs, fixtures, and tooling based on product specifications.
  • Develop, optimize, repair, and modify molds and tooling used in manufacturing.
  • Participate in design reviews and perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) evaluations.
  • Support mold design validation, qualification, sampling, and final part approval.
  • Approve mold designs and support qualification using established FIR/FRP processes.
  • Troubleshoot tooling and injection molding issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop cost-effective tooling and mold design improvements.
  • Collaborate with Production, Design, Quality, and Engineering teams to improve tooling performance and efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement activities related to tooling and molding processes.
  • Prepare status reports and maintain technical documentation related to tooling and tool-room equipment.
  • Support manufacturing activities involving thermoplastics, thermosets, mold flow, and injection molding processes.


Required Qualifications

  • Experience in Molding Tooling Engineering / Tool Design / Injection Molding.
  • Hands-on experience with injection molding machines and hot runner systems.
  • Strong knowledge of mold design, development, optimization, repair, and modification.
  • Experience with DFM, mold validation, qualification, sampling, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with ProE/Creo, Windchill, and SolidWorks.
  • Experience working with thermoplastics, thermosets, and molding processes.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience in medical products, medical devices, or other regulated manufacturing is highly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.


Additional Technical Experience

  • Basic injection molding machine operator knowledge.
  • Familiarity with electronic assembly, components, schematics, and color codes.
  • Exposure to PCB operations and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with testing equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Familiarity with cable/harness testing and component testing.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical hand tools, measuring tools, alignment tools, taps, and dies.
