Job Description
Position Summary
This role is focused on injection molding process improvement, equipment efficiency, leadership, employee development, and capital/regulatory projects. The successful candidate will manage multiple assignments of varying scope and complexity while driving operational excellence in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Molding Manufacturing Unit's objectives by identifying performance gaps, troubleshooting issues, and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Drive improvements in molding process effectiveness, equipment utilization, and overall operational efficiency.
  • Apply established safety standards and ensure safe interaction between operators and manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintain awareness of product performance and quality requirements related to assigned processes and projects.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts related to mold setup, process optimization, and preventive maintenance of molding presses.
  • Partner with the Technical Leader to ensure appropriate spare parts are identified, ordered, and maintained to support equipment reliability.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of engineering principles and their application within a molding manufacturing environment.
  • Utilize sound molding engineering practices and effectively collaborate with external equipment and service vendors.
  • Coordinate project activities between equipment suppliers and cross-functional plant teams.
  • Lead and support capital improvement initiatives, including project planning, execution, and implementation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in injection molding processes across a variety of molds, presses, and molding technologies.
  • Manage multiple projects and process-related assignments simultaneously, ensuring effective coordination and execution.
  • Evaluate and recommend vendors, equipment, materials, and commercial solutions to support manufacturing and project needs.
  • Recommend and implement capital equipment upgrades or process modifications, including equipment installation, commissioning, debugging, and operator training.
  • Develop, maintain, and update required documentation, including: Process validations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), Operational Specifications, Preventive Maintenance schedules, Process control documentation, Spare parts inventories
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of assigned equipment, including setup, adjustment, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Deliver budgeted cost savings, productivity improvements, and operational efficiencies.
  • Manage project spending and ensure capital and expense expenditures remain within approved budgets.
  • Direct and support mold setters, technicians, and other operational personnel during equipment installations, modifications, process adjustments, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Provide functional guidance and leadership to other engineers as needed to achieve project and operational objectives.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Molding related subject OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and certification/training programs in injection molding processing/technology or Molding industry comparable certifications (such as Master Molder or comparable Scientific Molding Training Certificate) OR
  • Associates Engineering degree and certification/training programs in injection molding processing/technology or Molding industry comparable certifications (such as Master Molder or comparable Scientific Molding Training Certificate) and 2 years relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 years of work experience in a molding environment
  • Molding process experience in the following areas:
    • Master Molder I, or higher
    • Mold press maintenance and troubleshooting
    • Injection molding process development
    • Hydraulic and servo-controlled core-pull systems
    • Mold temperature controller programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
    • Leading a team of high-level technicians to achieve daily operational goals
    • Project/Program experience
  • Accredited program certification(s) in injection molding processing/technology (Master Molder, Paulson Injection Molding Training, etc.)

Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of proper molding engineering practices and vendor relationships.
  • Understanding of Operational Excellence initiatives with an emphasis online Centric Organizations
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing initiatives with an emphasis in continuous improvement.
