The Shutter Installer Trainee is a position designed to provide hands-on training and experience in the installation of hurricane shutters and related protection systems. The trainee will work closely with experienced installers to learn the proper techniques and safety practices required to effectively install various types of shutters.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Assist experienced installers with the installation of hurricane shutters and related protection systems, including roll-down, accordion, and panel shutters.
  • Participate in hands-on training to learn proper installation techniques, safety practices, and quality standards.
  • Prepare job sites by unloading materials, organizing tools, measuring areas, and staging equipment for efficient installations.
  • Support the accurate assembly and installation of shutter systems according to specifications, drawings, and company procedures.
  • Learn to read and interpret basic work orders, measurements, and installation instructions.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools under supervision.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including PPE use and jobsite safety requirements.
  • Assist with sealing, anchoring, and securing shutters to ensure performance and durability.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site, including care of tools, materials, and customer property.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and adjustment of installed systems as needed.
  • Travel to residential and commercial job sites and assist with loading/unloading company vehicles.
  • Communicate effectively with lead installers and supervisors regarding job progress, material needs, and issues.
  • Demonstrate continuous learning, reliability, and a strong work ethic to progress toward Installer certification.
  • Provide professional, customer-focused service and consistently represent Storm Smart's brand, values, and service standards on every job.

Required Skills/ Abilities:
  • Mechanically minded, with the ability to stand back and assess the situation before commencing work.

Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or vocational coursework in construction, mechanical systems, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of hands-on experience installing, servicing, inspecting, or repairing hurricane shutters, impact products, or similar construction-related systems.
  • Prior experience performing punchout, quality control, service, or warranty work strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of shutter systems, installation methods, hardware, and adjustment techniques.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical or installation-related issues and implement effective repairs.
  • Experience working directly on job sites in residential or light commercial environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and workmanship standards.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort interacting with customers in a professional, service-oriented manner.
  • Ability to accurately complete work orders, inspection forms, and service documentation.
  • Proficiency using hand and power tools and basic mobile field technology.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record meeting company insurance requirements.
