Responsibility Summary
The Human Trafficking Specialist (HTS) provides individual, family, and group advocacy and case management to human trafficking clients within agency policies and procedures and practices. Responsibilities include providing clinical level case management and advocacy services and a variety of wraparound support duties. The HTS works with the Human Trafficking Therapist(s) to assess for mental health needs of clients and makes appropriate referrals. The HTS reports to the Human Trafficking Program Manager. In addition, the HTS is responsible for creating an inclusive environment that demonstrates equity and belonging to our clients, ChicagoCAC staff, and partners.
Primary Responsibilities:
- May be required to assist in coordinating the investigative, law enforcement and child protection work of CPD, DCFS and Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in Human Trafficking cases in the city of Chicago as well as coordination of cases in the State of Illinois with the FBI and Department of Homeland Security.
- Provides direct individual and family clinical advocacy and case management to a minimum caseload of 20-25 clients including comprehensive coordination, service planning, effective service implementation, and discharge planning within the guidelines established by the Family Hope Center. Caseload range is based on clients with full-time engagement and may be adjusted up to a size of 30 depending on frequency of contact with clients.
- May be asked to support drop-in program and therapy or psychoeducation groups (child, parent, combined child and parent, or family).
- Performs a variety of casework duties, including obtaining, analyzing, and evaluating data necessary to implement client services.
- Actively participates in reflective, clinical, and administrative supervision with the HT Program Manager at a frequency to be determined by the specialist and supervisor together.
- Actively participates in Family Hope Center department meetings and case consultations.
- Actively participates in peer consultation process.
- Participates in Family Hope Center file reviews.
- Provides linkage to other appropriate resources, including services external to the agency, based upon the needs of clients and families.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and timely client records as required by the Family Hope Center and ChicagoCAC.
- Conducts crisis assessments and responds appropriately to client crisis needs.
- Participates in Family Hope Center community events and actively fosters supportive community environment within Family Hope Center for clients and families.
- Promotes trauma resiliency among the Family Hope Center team, ChicagoCAC staff, and MDT staff by participating in and contributing to projects to foster the trauma informed environment, e.g. Breathing Room.
- Participates in MDT case review, case consultation, or staff meetings to provide clinical support related to Human Trafficking cases.
- Participates in Human Trafficking Collaborations and Task Force Meetings.
- Facilitates trainings with Human Trafficking Therapist(s).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Discretion
The Human Trafficking Specialist has a mid-level range of discretion and independent decision-making.

Relationships
The Human Trafficking Specialist works closely with the Trauma Therapist, Director of MDT Coordination, Director of Advocacy, Chief Program Officer for Advocacy & Investigative Services, Forensic Interviewers, Family Advocates, MDT partner agencies and community partners.
Qualifications
- Minimum requirement of a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or another human service related field.
- Must be license eligible (LCPC, LCSW). Minimum of one year experience of providing full-time direct services with human trafficking cases preferred.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, written, oral, and communication skills needed. Demonstrated awareness of multiple cultures and cultural impact on the delivery of service is a must.
- Flexibility in schedule based on the needs of clients is required. Travel to client’s homes or schools or other community locations for delivery of service is required. Evenings required. Bilingual-Spanish preferred.
- Will be required to use personal vehicle and show valid license and active insurance upon request.
