Job description

HR Recruitment Specialist - Family Managed Services (FMS)

Are you passionate about working with Albertans with disabilities and supporting your local community? Do you have what it takes to champion our vision to inspire potential, build community, and enrich lives?

Easter Seals Alberta (ESA) is a provincial not-for-profit organization that has been in existence for over 75 years. Our mission is to provide services that foster inclusion, independence, and well-being for individuals with disabilities and medical conditions. We strive to ensure that the resources Albertans need for an independent and fulfilling life are available.

The HR Recruitment Specialist plays a key role in supporting individuals with disabilities and their families participating in Easter Seals Alberta's Family Managed Services (FMS) Program. This position provides recruitment guidance, human resource consultation, and workforce development services to assist families and Family Managed Services Administrators (FMSAs) in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and retaining qualified employees to meet individualized support needs.

Working collaboratively with families, support workers, community partners, and internal staff, the HR Recruitment Specialist ensures recruitment and employment practices align with Alberta employment legislation, organizational policies, and the principles of person-centred, inclusive, and equitable service delivery.

The HR Recruitment Specialist empowers families by providing practical HR tools, templates, education, and consultation while promoting workforce stability, employee engagement, and high-quality supports for individuals with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support families and Family Managed Services Administrators (FMSAs) throughout the recruitment process by providing consultation, tools, templates, and best-practice guidance.
  • Support the development and posting of job advertisements across appropriate recruitment platforms, community networks, and social media channels.
  • Develop recruitment strategies to help families and FMSAs attract qualified candidates, particularly in rural, remote, and high-demand communities.
  • Coordinate interviews and provide standardized recruitment tools, including interview guides, candidate evaluation templates, scoring matrices, and interview questions.
  • Participate in interviews alongside families and Family Managed Services Administrators when requested.
  • Assist with reference and background check processes in accordance with legislation and organizational policies.
  • Provide onboarding guidance and resources to support successful employee integration.
  • Develop and provide orientation materials, onboarding checklists, and individualized training plans.
  • Assist families and FMSAs with establishing clear role expectations, work schedules, reporting relationships, communication practices, and supervision approaches.
  • Provide guidance regarding workplace accommodations and inclusive employment practices.
  • Offer guidance on performance management, including coaching, performance reviews, constructive feedback, progressive performance improvement strategies, and employee recognition.
  • Collaborate with Family Resource Coordinators, Social Workers, and other professionals to ensure recruitment aligns with individualized service plans where appropriate.
  • Build trusting relationships with families throughout the recruitment and employment process.
  • Provide individualized consultation based on each family's staffing needs and employment goals.
  • Develop new HR resources, templates, guides, and tools that strengthen Family Managed Services across Alberta.
  • Stay current with emerging HR practices, employment legislation, and disability sector trends.
Knowledge & Qualifications
  • Diploma or Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Services, Disability Studies, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards, Human Rights legislation, Occupational Health and Safety legislation, and HR best practices.
  • Experience in recruitment, talent acquisition, and workforce development.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities, families, or within the human services sector is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Family Managed Services, person-centred planning, and inclusive employment practices is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of confidentiality, privacy legislation, and ethical practice.
Working Conditions
  • This position is 40 hours per week and reports to the Family Resource Centre Manager.
  • Requires a Clear Enhanced Police Information Check.
  • Ability to attend community events, recruitment fairs, and family meetings.
  • Travel may be required to support families, training sessions, and outreach activities.
What We Have to Offer
  • Comprehensive benefits after three months.
  • Employer-matched RRSP plan.
  • Fun, dynamic team culture.
  • Opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
