Senior Associate Risk Specialist, HR Business Risk Office

As a Senior HR Risk Specialist in Capital One's Human Resource Business Risk Office you will be responsible for working with business partners to identify and consult on potential risks to Capital One, applying your risk/process management and analytical skills to drive well-managed risk activities. HR Risk Specialists at Capital One are highly motivated risk and process management professionals with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. As Capital One evolves to meet the ever-changing landscape, so do our risk specialists. A successful risk specialist operates from a foundation of knowledge about the Line of Business with whom they are working, laws/regulations, processes, associated controls, good risk management and risk mitigation practices. They are forward thinking, quick to adapt, and technologically adept.

This individual will support horizontal risk management. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated process management professional with excellent problem solving, integrative thinking, prioritization and communication skills. Additionally, building win-win partnerships with multiple stakeholders both within and outside of the HR Business Risk Office, while adapting to and managing change in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, are default essentials for this role.

Other Responsibilities Include:

  • Supports HR Division Incident management process and event/issue management in Fuse; performs QA oversight, facilitates assessments, updates systems of record

  • FUSE and Salesforce record management: Provide support to HR Risk Advisors and Risk Operations team according to Operational Risk Management Standards

  • Drives containment and remediation of process breakdowns in conjunction with compliance, legal and business process teams

  • Supports Business Continuity oversight and plan updates within CL360

  • Supports timely delivery of HR Governance Roadmap (Project, process, risk management, & communications)

  • Supports process health of Rmap Control Coverage

  • Control Execution Oversight for Business Risk Office Governance Activities: Provides oversight throughout control lifecycle, including creation, execution, monitoring, and remediation of ineffective controls in accordance with Enterprise & Data Governance Standards

  • Identifies opportunities to improve risk management practices and develops solutions to perfect risk management, eliminate waste, and deliver an exceptional customer experience

  • Participates in risk forums and contributes to continuous improvement of risk management practices

  • Ensures independent escalation of risk management gaps, issues, and concerns to management

  • Participates in and execute other special projects for the risk office on a periodic basis

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification

  • At least 1 of experience in project, process, program, or risk management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in process management

  • At least 3 years experience working in an Agile Team environment

  • At least 3 years of experience with Business Process Management (BPM)

  • At least 3 years of experience working in Risk Management

  • At least 3 years of experience in Human Resources

  • At least 1 year of experience with Control Management

  • At least 1 year of experience working in the Agile Team environment

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $96,500 - $110,100 for Sr. Risk Associate


Richmond, VA: $87,700 - $100,100 for Sr. Risk Associate










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
