About the job

The Core UI design team within the R&D Foundation Division, is seeking a UX Designer specializing in Data Visualization to help shape SASโ€™s graph experiences. This role focuses on designing intuitive, high-quality data visualizations that power analytics across SAS products.

You will work on product-facing visualization experiences while contributing to the SAS Graph Library within the Filament Design System. Your work will influence how users explore data, gain insights, and make decisions through visual analytics.

This role also includes designing next-generation visualization capabilities, including 3D graphs and advanced interaction patterns. You will have opportunities to take ownership of key initiatives and help guide design direction within the Graphs space. 

As a UX Designer, Data Visualization you will:

  • Define and promote reusable UX patterns for graph components, partnering across teams to ensure consistent, high-quality adoption and alignment with design system standards
  • Design data visualization experiences that support exploration, analysis, and insight generation 
  • Create intuitive, graphical interaction patterns for analytical workflows 
  • Communicate complex data concepts through clear, effective visuals 
  • Design and prototype 2D and 3D graph experiences, including spatial and advanced visual representations 
  • Contribute to the SAS Graph Library within the Filament Design System, helping define reusable visualization patterns, standards, and components 
  • Partner closely with other data visualization designers, engineering, and product teams to ensure high-quality implementation of graphing solutions 
  • Apply user research and feedback to refine visualization usability and effectiveness 
  • Collaborate with accessibility specialists to support inclusive and usable data visualization practices

Required qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in UX, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Graphic Design, Information Science, Animation, or related field  
  • 5+ years of experience in UX design, product design, or data visualization design  
  • Strong foundation in data visualization principles (e.g., chart selection, visual encoding, data storytelling)
  • Experience designing interactive analytical experiences for complex or data-rich applications 
  • Experience with 3D visualization and modeling tools or technologies (e.g., Blender, WebGL, Three.js, or similar) 
  • Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite) 
  • Experience collaborating with engineering teams on visualization implementation 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to translate complex data concepts into intuitive designs 
  • Online portfolio demonstrating data visualization work, including interactive or analytical experiences 
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.
