What does an HTML CSS developer do?

An HTML CSS Developer is responsible for creating and styling the visual elements of websites and web applications using HTML (HyperText Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). They structure web content with HTML and design its appearance with CSS, ensuring that websites are visually appealing and responsive across different devices. In addition, they often collaborate with designers and other developers to implement interactive and user-friendly interfaces. Their work is fundamental to building modern, accessible, and high-performing websites.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an HTML CSS developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an HTML CSS Developer, a solid understanding of HTML5, CSS3, responsive design principles, and web accessibility standards is essential, often supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, code editors such as VS Code, and frameworks like Bootstrap is typically expected. Attention to detail, creativity, and strong problem-solving skills help developers create visually appealing and user-friendly websites. These skills ensure that web content is accessible, visually consistent, and functions well across devices and browsers.

What are some typical challenges an HTML CSS developer faces when working with responsive design across multiple devices?

Job Description
This is a hybrid role requiring on-site presence Tuesday through Thursday, with remote work available Monday and Friday.
We are seeking a highly skilled Expert Software Engineer - AEM & Forms to design, build, integrate, and support the experience layer of Agilent.com as part of a product-oriented POD. This role is intended for an expert-level engineer who can operate beyond just hands-on development by partnering closely with Product Leaders, serving as a Technical Product Owner (TPO) when needed, shaping technical direction, guiding engineering team members, and translating customer and business priorities into scalable digital capabilities. The engineer will work hands-on with Adobe DA.live, Edge Delivery Services (EDS), Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Cloud Service, and Adobe Forms to build modern, high-performing frontend applications and reusable experience components. The role requires strong frontend engineering expertise, practical experience using frontend design systems, proven experience delivering globally scaled customer-facing applications, and the ability to create DA.live Blocks that support content, product discovery, catalog, personalization, and customer journey use cases. Experience with HTL, AWS services, and AEM Assets is a plus.
This role currently follows a hybrid work model. Work arrangements may evolve based on future business needs.
What you'll do:
  • Work within a cross-functional POD to deliver customer-facing experience-layer capabilities for Agilent.com across content, product discovery, catalog, personalization, and guided digital journeys.
  • Design, build, and support modern frontend applications and reusable experience components using Adobe DA.live, Edge Delivery Services (EDS), and Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Cloud Service.
  • Create, enhance, and maintain DA.live Blocks that use frontend design systems to deliver consistent, accessible, scalable, and reusable customer experience patterns.
  • Develop experience-layer capabilities that make Agilent.com more personalized for customers based on content, product, catalog, journey, and contextual experience needs.
  • Build new product and catalog capabilities that improve customer discovery, comparison, evaluation, and engagement with Agilent products and services.
  • Develop and support Adobe Forms capabilities for customer-facing workflows, lead capture, guided interactions, request flows, and digital self-service experiences.
  • Partner with product managers, UX designers, content teams, catalog teams, architects, QA, analytics, and platform engineers to translate business and customer needs into maintainable frontend solutions.
  • Operate as a Technical Product Owner (TPO) within the POD by partnering closely with Product Leaders to clarify outcomes, shape backlog priorities, define technical acceptance criteria, and align delivery with business value.
  • Integrate frontend experiences with AEM content models, catalog services, personalization services, analytics, APIs, and other enterprise digital platforms as needed.
  • Ensure frontend applications are performant, accessible, responsive, secure, observable, and optimized for business-critical customer journeys across global Agilent.com experiences.
  • Apply strong engineering practices including modular design, reusable components, code reviews, automated testing, performance optimization, documentation, and production support.
  • Guide and mentor other engineering team members on solution design, application architecture, reusable component development, coding standards, testing practices, and production-quality implementation.
  • Contribute to agile delivery, backlog refinement, technical design, estimation, sprint execution, release readiness, and continuous improvement within the POD.
  • Continuously improve frontend engineering patterns that enable faster delivery, better personalization, higher reuse, and measurable customer experience outcomes across Agilent's digital channels.

Qualifications
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, Web Development, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of relevant software engineering experience building customer-facing web applications, frontend platforms, content experiences, or enterprise digital experience capabilities.
  • Strong hands-on experience developing applications on Adobe DA.live, Adobe Edge Delivery Services (EDS), and Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Cloud Service.
  • Required experience developing, configuring, integrating, and supporting Adobe Forms for customer-facing workflows and digital experience use cases.
  • Strong frontend engineering skills using modern JavaScript, HTML, CSS, responsive design, accessibility standards, browser performance practices, and reusable component patterns.
  • Experience using frontend design systems to build consistent, reusable, accessible, and brand-aligned user interface components.
  • Hands-on experience creating DA.live Blocks and experience components that support scalable content authoring, personalization, product discovery, catalog experiences, and customer journeys.
  • Experience integrating frontend experiences with AEM content, APIs, product and catalog data services, personalization capabilities, analytics, and enterprise digital platforms.
  • Strong understanding of content-driven digital experience architectures, component-based design, authoring models, reusable templates, and customer journey optimization.
  • Experience building performant, accessible, SEO-conscious, secure, and globally scalable web experiences for large enterprise websites or digital commerce platforms.
  • Proven experience working on customer-facing applications that have scaled globally across regions, languages, markets, performance expectations, and enterprise operating requirements.
  • Ability to translate customer, product, catalog, content, and personalization requirements into reliable, maintainable, and reusable frontend solutions.
  • Experience with agile delivery, backlog refinement, technical design, estimation, code reviews, automated testing, release readiness, CI/CD, and production support.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning skills across frontend applications, browser behavior, network calls, content delivery, and integration points.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical mindset, attention to detail, and ability to operate effectively in a product-oriented agile POD.
  • Strong soft skills, including executive-level communication, stakeholder management, facilitation, influence without authority, active listening, and the ability to work closely with Product Leaders in a fast-moving POD model.
  • Ability to operate as a Technical Product Owner (TPO) by connecting product strategy, customer needs, technical feasibility, backlog refinement, delivery trade-offs, and measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide engineering team members on application design, development approaches, implementation patterns, technical quality, and scalable engineering practices.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative perspective across engineering, UX, product management, content, catalog, architecture, QA, analytics, and business stakeholders.

Additional Preferred Skills:
  • Ability to fully utilize agentic development techniques, including AI-assisted coding, automated test generation, code review support, documentation acceleration, and workflow automation, to improve engineering efficiency, delivery speed, and overall development quality.
  • Adobe Certified Expert - Adobe Experience Platform or equivalent certifications.
  • Experience with Adobe Experience Platform Web SDK and Mobile SDK.
  • Experience with GitHub Actions for CI/CD automation, build validation, deployment workflows, and release engineering is a plus.
