Job description

This position will be traveling the South Florida region. Candidate must be willing to be onsite daily. 

Summary:

 As a Safety Manager in our Heavy Civil Construction company, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising project safety, accident, and fire protection programs to ensure compliance with industry and corporate safety standards on all job sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recognize and control hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee and subcontractor activities through safety management and communication with supervisory personnel.
  • Conduct work area surveillance inspections, air sampling tests, property damage assessments, and personal injury investigations. Issue confined area entry and "hot work" permits as needed.
  • Document all accidents, safety violations, and unsafe conditions/activities, conducting root cause analysis.
  • Perform hazard assessments of activities and recommend corrective actions and necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize exposure.
  • Review documentation to ensure all required records and reports are complete, accurate, and submitted per established procedures, taking appropriate corrective action when necessary.
  • Accompany safety, health, and insurance personnel during inspections.
  • Assist in crafting and implementing employee safety orientation training programs.
  • Work in extreme environments, walk long distances over rough terrain, and photograph site conditions.
  • Conduct classroom and field training for project personnel and occasionally climb to heights on equipment and platforms.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5-10 years experience in safety management in construction.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Education and Credentials:

  • Bachelor's Degree in safety related field
  • 5 years of safety experience in construction industry and
  • ASP or GSP certification and
  • CHST certification

OR if No Degree

  • 10 years of safety experience in construction industry and
  • OSHA 500
  • CHST certification

Compensation:

  • Salary will be based on a combination of previous related experience, education, and credentials.
  • Bonus eligibility.
  • Company truck with all expenses covered.
  • All travel expenses paid.
  • 401K matching, medical benefits, etc. provided.

Safety Considerations:

 

  • May work 12 hours per day, 6-7 days per week in extreme hot and cold environments after acclimatization.
  • Required to wear all necessary personal protective equipment daily.
  • May be exposed to snakes, insects, and similar hazards with appropriate PPE provided to minimize exposure.
  • Expected to work on variable terrain, operate a motor vehicle, and lift/carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • May use field test equipment requiring manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
  • May be required to enter confined and/or enclosed spaces with respiratory protective equipment.
  • Occasional climbing may be necessary.
  • May be required to drive for long distances and work at night.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials on a routine basis with appropriate PPE and protective clothing provided.

Candidates that accept an offer of employment are required to undergo and successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination. This exam is essential to ensure that all potential employees meet the necessary health and fitness standards for the role. The examination includes a series of tests and evaluations conducted by a certified medical professional to assess overall physical health, identify any potential medical conditions that could interfere with job performance, and verify that the candidate is capable of safely performing the essential duties of the position.

 Completion and clearance of this physical are mandatory steps in the hiring process.
