The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is a vibrant community of artists, scholars, and educators committed to excellence in creative expression, academic inquiry, and public engagement. Home to nationally recognized programs in music, theatre, film, dance, visual art, and design, the College fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and a deep connection between the arts and society.
As the Assistant to the Dean, you will:
  • Provide high-level administrative and strategic support to the Dean of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts.
  • Function as a key advisor, project manager, and liaison to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Play a critical role in managing the execution of strategic initiatives, overseeing operational activities in the Dean's Office, coordinating college-wide events and communications, travel, and supervising student support staff.
  • Exercise substantial independent judgment and discretion, managing multiple complex priorities while fostering a professional, inclusive, and service-oriented environment.

This role requires a deep understanding of the College's mission, its academic and artistic programs, and the ability to anticipate the needs of the Dean in a dynamic, highly visible setting. In the UNL system, this position is categorized as an Administrative Assistant.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Arts Administration, Communication, Business, or related field; plus two (2) years of administrative experience in a professional office setting. Additional years of relevant experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, digital collaboration tools, and calendar management software.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities with accuracy and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
  • Experience in a higher education or arts-focused environment.
  • Familiarity with university systems such as SAP, Firefly, NUFFO, and Concur.
  • Experience supervising students or support staff.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and web content management systems.
