Housekeeping Helper information

What is a housekeeping helper?

Housekeeping helpers are workers who assist with cleaning and maintaining residential or commercial spaces. Their duties typically include tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping floors, changing linens, and replenishing supplies. Housekeeping helpers often work under the supervision of a head housekeeper or facility manager to ensure that all areas are kept tidy and hygienic. They play an important role in maintaining a clean and comfortable environment for occupants and visitors.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a housekeeping helper?

To thrive as a Housekeeping Helper, you need basic cleaning skills, attention to detail, and a high school diploma or equivalent is often preferred. Familiarity with cleaning tools, chemicals, and safety protocols, as well as experience using housekeeping carts and equipment, is important. Reliability, time management, and the ability to work well independently or as part of a team are essential soft skills. These abilities ensure cleanliness standards are met efficiently, contributing to a safe and pleasant environment for guests or residents.

What challenges might a housekeeping helper face during busy periods, and how can they manage them?

During peak times, such as holidays or special events, Housekeeping Helpers may experience increased workloads and tighter deadlines. It’s important to prioritize tasks, communicate with team members, and stay organized to ensure all rooms and facilities are cleaned to standard. Utilizing time management skills and being adaptable can help manage stress and maintain quality. Many hotels or facilities also provide regular team check-ins and support to help staff stay on track during busy periods.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and support the Housekeeping team throughout the shift, including assigning tasks and monitoring room readiness.

  • Train, coach, and support Housekeeping team members, including stepping in to assist with cleaning when necessary.

Job description

Description: Housekeeping Supervisor — Residence Inn by Marriott Prescott

Prescott, Arizona | Full-Time

Residence Inn Prescott is hiring an experienced Housekeeping Supervisor to help lead our Housekeeping team and daily room-readiness operation.

We're looking for a hands-on hotel housekeeping leader who knows what a truly clean, guest-ready room looks like, knows how to inspect it, knows how to train others to achieve it—and is willing to jump in beside the team when the operation needs help.

BEFORE YOU APPLY

These are required, not preferred:

  • Previous hotel housekeeping supervisory or leadership experience
  • Open availability
  • Weekend availability
  • Holiday availability
  • Experience inspecting hotel guestrooms and coaching Housekeeping team members
  • Ability to work hands-on with the team, including cleaning rooms when operationally necessary

Applicants without previous hotel housekeeping leadership experience will not be considered for this supervisory position.

WHAT YOU'LL LEAD

As Housekeeping Supervisor, you'll help own the daily execution of Housekeeping from the morning room assignment through final inspection and room release.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Leading and supporting Room Attendants throughout the shift
  • Assigning and balancing daily room boards
  • Prioritizing departures, arrivals, stayovers and special-service rooms
  • Monitoring room production and adjusting assignments as needed
  • Inspecting guestrooms before release
  • Identifying rework and ensuring it is corrected
  • Training and coaching new and existing Housekeeping contributors
  • Observing the actual cleaning process—not simply checking the finished room
  • Maintaining Residence Inn and property cleanliness/presentation standards
  • Coordinating closely with Front Desk on room readiness
  • Coordinating with Maintenance when a room has a repair or condition issue
  • Supporting Laundry, linen and supply readiness
  • Monitoring carts, closets, supplies and Housekeeping organization
  • Reporting damage, missing inventory, pest concerns, odors, leaks and maintenance deficiencies
  • Reinforcing chemical safety, PPE, key control, guest privacy and lost-and-found procedures
  • Helping manage productivity and daily staffing needs
  • Supporting public-area cleanliness and overall property presentation
  • Responding professionally to guest cleanliness concerns
  • Stepping into room production when the team needs help
THIS IS A WORKING SUPERVISOR ROLE

We're not looking for someone who wants to stand in the hallway with a clipboard.

We're looking for a leader who can demonstrate, inspect, coach, correct, organize and support.

When the hotel is busy, you help the team.

When a room isn't right, you find out why.

When the same issue keeps happening, you coach the process—not just the result.

When Maintenance is blocking a room, you communicate it.

When Front Desk needs an arrival room, you know where things stand.

That's the position.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The right candidate:

  • Has previous hotel Housekeeping leadership experience
  • Has strong guestroom-inspection skills
  • Understands professional hotel cleaning procedures
  • Knows how to organize a Housekeeping team and daily workload
  • Can train new Room Attendants effectively
  • Is detail-driven without losing sight of productivity
  • Communicates clearly and professionally
  • Holds people accountable while treating them with respect
  • Notices problems and follows through
  • Works well with Front Desk, Maintenance, Laundry and hotel leadership
  • Understands that safety and quality are never sacrificed for speed
  • Is comfortable being an active, visible leader throughout the property

Marriott, Residence Inn and extended-stay hotel experience are preferred but not required.

SCHEDULE

Open availability is required.

This position includes:

  • Weekdays
  • Weekends
  • Holidays
  • Early mornings
  • Schedule adjustments based on occupancy and operational needs

Hospitality operates seven days a week, and leadership coverage is required when our guests and team need us.

ABOUT RESIDENCE INN PRESCOTT
