What is a house sitter?

House sitters are individuals who temporarily live in or look after someone’s home while the homeowners are away. Their duties typically include maintaining the property, watering plants, collecting mail, and sometimes caring for pets. House sitting helps ensure a home remains secure and well-maintained during the owner's absence. Many homeowners hire house sitters for peace of mind, knowing their property and pets are in good hands.

What are the typical responsibilities of a house sitter?

As a house sitter, your main responsibilities usually include maintaining the security and cleanliness of the property, collecting mail, watering plants, and sometimes caring for pets. You may also be asked to handle basic home maintenance tasks, such as taking out the trash or monitoring for any issues like leaks or power outages. Clear communication with homeowners is essential to understand specific expectations for each assignment. The role often requires flexibility and trustworthiness, as homeowners rely on you to ensure their home is well-cared-for in their absence.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a house sitter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a House Sitter, you need reliability, attention to detail, and basic home maintenance knowledge, although formal qualifications are not typically required. Familiarity with security systems, smart home devices, and pet care routines is often beneficial. Trustworthiness, strong communication, and problem-solving skills help build client confidence and ensure smooth handling of unexpected situations. These abilities are crucial for maintaining property safety, meeting homeowner expectations, and handling responsibilities responsibly.
