About the Role
Reports to: Head of Content, Energy Central
Energy Central is a media company owned by Smooth that empowers, engages, and educates utility and power professionals. We're growing our content & community team with the addition of a YouTube producer.
This is a team leader role. You'll own Energy Central's entire multimedia strategy, ideating, producing, managing, and upleveling a growing portfolio of shows with a specific focus on YouTube. You'll bring both creative vision and platform expertise, and you'll build the team around you to execute it.
We're looking for someone who thinks in stories, obsesses over retention curves, and genuinely loves making complex ideas feel clear, interesting, and human. If you're energized by building something from the ground up in a niche you care about, this role is for you.
What you'll do
  • Lead Energy Central's YouTube strategy end-to-end from content planning and format development to packaging, optimization, and performance analysis
  • Own the craft of YouTube thumbnails, titles, hooks, pacing, retention, and analytics. You'll track the data and use it to continuously improve
  • Build and manage a lean team of editors, thumbnail designers, and contributors dedicated to growing Energy Central's YouTube presence
  • Develop repeatable video formats and franchises that scale, reflect our brand, and keep audiences coming back
  • Lead all multimedia content for the Content & Community team, working across newsletter, sales, and ops to ensure everything we publish meets a high standard
  • Help define and evolve Energy Central's voice and visual identity across YouTube, podcasts, and social: friendly, intelligent, curious, and optimistic

What we're looking for
  • A sharp visual storyteller and YouTube expert you know how to take complex, technical ideas and turn them into videos people actually want to watch
  • Deep platform craft you understand how thumbnails, titles, intros, pacing, and editing rhythm drive watch time. You study retention curves. You know how to open a video, when to deploy a cold hook, and how to keep viewers engaged all the way through
  • 3-5 years of experience in digital media, production, visual journalism, or a related field, with strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Either a genuine interest in the energy world you're curious about the future of electric power and love learning about it, or strong video-journalism instincts and experience making complex, technical topics feel human and compelling
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by building we're growing fast and there's real creative ownership available here
  • Experience with copy editing is a plus
