Job description

Who We Are

LoadUp is on a mission to make removal and disposal simple, honest, and stress-free. Founded in 2014, we set out to disrupt an industry known for hidden fees and vague pricing and built a tech-powered platform that gives customers real-time, upfront pricing and access to a vetted network of local pros who show up and get it done. No guessing. No surprises. Just honest service, done right.

Today, we're one of the largest on-demand junk removal and home services platforms in the country, matching individuals and businesses nationwide with trusted providers for removal, disposal, assembly, and hourly labor.

We're one of Inc.'s 5000 Fastest-Growing Companies and have been a certified Great Place to Work® since 2019.

We're growing fast, and we're looking for talented, driven people who want to help us keep reimagining what this industry can be. If you're excited by the idea of building something real, moving quickly, and doing right by customers, join our mission!

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our backend engineering team onsite in Alpharetta, Georgia and help build the next generation of LoadUp's cloud-native platform. This role focuses on designing and delivering resilient, maintainable microservices that power customer-facing and internal applications.

You will work closely with Product, QA, and Operations to ship well-tested, production-ready systems that scale. The successful candidate will combine strong engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience using modern development tools, including AI-assisted workflows, to increase throughput while maintaining high quality and reliability.

ResponsibilitiesBackend Engineering & Microservices
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable RESTful microservices using Java and Spring Boot, or comparable enterprise frameworks.

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with a strong emphasis on Test Driven Development (TDD).

  • Design and implement RESTful APIs and microservice-based architectures.

  • Work with Product Managers and Designers to translate requirements into pragmatic technical solutions.

  • Deliver production-ready software on schedule while maintaining quality and reliability.

CI/CD, Cloud & Infrastructure
  • Build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or similar tools.

  • Automate software build, test, and deployment processes.

  • Containerize services using Docker.

  • Support observability, autoscaling, and reliability across production services.

Testing, Security & Reliability
  • Collaborate with QA to maintain comprehensive unit, integration, and contract testing coverage.

  • Implement security best practices across services, including authentication, authorization, and secret management.

  • Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis.

  • Drive continuous improvements in system performance, reliability, and operability.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or 4+ years of equivalent professional software engineering experience.

  • Proven experience building production microservices using Java, Spring Boot, or similar enterprise frameworks.

  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and microservice-based architectures.

  • Experience with ORM tools for data modeling and database interactions, including JPA, Hibernate, or similar technologies.

  • Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL or comparable relational databases.

  • Experience with relational database schema design, indexing, query optimization, and migrations.

  • Practical experience containerizing applications using Docker.

  • Experience deploying applications to Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, or similar environments.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions and automated testing practices.

  • Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools to accelerate high-quality software delivery.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Strong ownership mentality focused on quality, performance, and reliability.

  • Coachable, detail-oriented, and committed to continuous improvement.

Who You Are

A High-Velocity Builder who leverages AI tools and modern workflows to amplify engineering output without sacrificing correctness.

An Ownership-Minded Engineer who cares deeply about code quality, system performance, and long-term maintainability.

A Collaborative Thinker who translates product needs into scalable technical designs and communicates trade-offs clearly.
