Job Scope: Teaching Assistants will provide a balance of academic and enrichment activities to help 6th to 8th grade students develop and strengthen academic, physical, and social skills. Activities will be conducted in accordance with the conditions and terms set forth by the Illinois Department of Human Services' (IDHS) Program and will take place in CCSD59 middle schools during the school year (September - May), and another location (TBD) during school breaks including holidays, and occasional Saturdays.
Program Responsibilities:
  • Safety & Wellbeing: Ensuring the wellbeing and safety of youth at all times.
  • Daily Activity Plans: Implement lesson plans and maintain daily classroom schedules
  • Support Student's Growth/ Development: Support each youth's social, emotional, and intellectual growth/development through lessons plans and interactions
    • Using a variety of instructional and assessment strategies to meet individual youth needs
  • Tutoring/Homework Assistance: Assisting youth with assignments or difficult concepts
  • Maintaining weekly communication with parents, staff, and faculty regarding the progress of students.
  • Transport participants when needed in a KYC owned or rented vehicle.

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Tracking attendance of the students and other clerical duties in connection with lesson plans and programming.
  • Provide nutritional snacks in accordance with relevant local and state health standards for food preparation and handling and meet the standards of the National Afterschool Association

Minimum Position Requirements
  • 18 years and older
  • Spanish- or Polish-speaking preferred
  • Familiarity with typical electronic office equipment including networked printers and file storage equipment.

Schedule
  • The position will be Part-Time hourly position, up to a maximum of 15 hours.
