Job description

Lochner and Egis are entering an exciting new chapter as one organization.
We have combined decades of trusted U.S. engineering expertise with the global reach, technical excellence, and career opportunities of a leading international engineering, consulting, and infrastructure firm. While our name has changed, our commitment to our people, clients, and communities is stronger than ever.
We are seeking a Structures-Rail Project Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of rail and transit infrastructure projects. This role focuses on structural components such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, stations, and related facilities. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, project coordination skills, and experience working within rail or transportation environments.
At Egis, every project is an opportunity to create lasting impact. We collaborate with public and private clients to design and deliver innovative transportation, aviation, rail, transit, water, structural, environmental, and infrastructure solutions that connect communities and improve everyday life. Join a team where innovation is encouraged, collaboration is valued, and your work helps build a more sustainable future.
The Impact You'll Make
  • Lead and support structural design for rail-related infrastructure projects, including bridges, culverts, retaining structures, and station elements
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (track, civil, electrical, geotechnical) to ensure integrated project delivery
  • Perform structural analysis using industry-standard software (e.g., SAP2000, STAAD, LARSA, or similar)
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (AREMA, AASHTO, ASTM, local/state requirements)
  • Support project management tasks including budgeting, scheduling, and client communication
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and condition assessments as needed
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development

The Expertise You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in structural engineering, preferably within rail or transportation infrastructure
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe
  • Strong knowledge of structural design principles and materials (steel, concrete, prestressed systems)
  • Experience with rail-specific standards such as AREMA (preferred)
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with commuter rail, light rail, or freight rail projects
  • Familiarity with CTDOT or regional transportation agency standards
  • Experience working in consulting engineering environments
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering (a plus)
