Description
Assists Columbia Heights residents with early voting for the 2026 General Election.
Examples of Duties
  • Assist voters with early voting and serve as a member of the Absentee Ballot Board.
  • Complete election training as required to help in the administration of election services for the City.
  • Answer general inquiries from the public about voting locations, voter registration, absentee voting and early voting.
  • Assists with preparation of election supplies.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must be an in the State of Minnesota
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
  • Must not be the spouse, parent, stepparent, child, stepchild, sibling or stepsibling of any election judge serving in the same precinct or of any candidate at that election
  • Must not be domiciled, either permanently or temporarily, with any candidate on the ballot at that election
  • Must not be a candidate on the ballot on that election

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with elections and the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS) absentee ballot / early voting module.

Supplemental Information
Due to major political party balance requirements (Minn. Stat. § 204B.19, Subd. 5), no more than half of the election judges in a precinct may be members of the same political party. MN law defines "member" as an individual who:
  1. Supports the general principles of that party's constitution
  2. Voted for the majority of that party's candidates in the last General Election OR
  3. Intends to vote for a majority of that party's candidates in the next General Election.

This is a 40+ hour per week position with a primary focus on assisting with early voting at Columbia Heights City Hall. The anticipated start date will be October 14th with the position concluding on or about November 6, 2026. The hours will primarily be 8:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position will require evening work on Tuesday October 27th as well as weekend hours on Saturday October 24th, Saturday October 31st and Sunday November 1st.
