Position Summary:

This Underwriting role is for Meritain Health, an independent subsidiary of Aetna and CVS, and one of the nation's largest employee benefits administrators. We have the resources of a national carrier coupled with the unique flexibility and devoted service of a third-party administrator (TPA).

The Meritain Health underwriting department supports the attainment of organizational goals through the issuance of prospective and existing business quotations and proposals. Including administrative fee pricing, stop loss, RFP questionnaire responses, and plan consultation.


This fully-remote position will have the opportunity to work on a diversified book of business including Mid-Market and our Captive/Alternate channels.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide guidance and consultation to our Sales and Client Management teams on pricing and stop loss strategies
  • Prepares and issues quotations and other financial deliverables for prospective and existing business while meeting established departmental TAT goals.
  • Prepares financial projections on prospects utilizing financial models in Excel and Salesforce.
  • Marketing and placement of stop loss policies, negotiating terms based upon claims data, strategy, relationships. and cost avoidance/reduction efforts.
  • Works with leaders from key functional areas to understand potential impacts for custom requests.
  • Manages and interprets operational data and applies to fee development and financial analysis.
  • Presents to internal/external customers, constituents, and business partners
  • Displays a clear understanding of the Meritain products and services along with strong business and systems knowledge
  • Develops and participates in presentation to existing and prospective customers, business partners and internal business areas.
  • Collaborates with leadership in Sales to determine the appropriate product mix to issue on proposals that target reducing total cost of care for the plan sponsor.
  • Independently assists sales and client management personnel in explaining rates/fees and communication of underwriting and stop loss policies.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive and productive relationship with sales, client management, our stop loss panel and internal partners.

Required Qualifications

  • 1-2 Years of applicable medical insurance experience: brokers (producers), carriers, third-party administrators, benefit analysis, underwriting, rating methodologies, or policy marketing, etc.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Exceptional problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills.

  • Adept at collaboration and teamwork.

  • Adept at growth mindset (agility and developing yourself and others) skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-4 Years of applicable medical insurance experience: brokers (producers), carriers, third-party administrators, benefit analysis, underwriting, rating methodologies, or policy marketing, etc.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred/specialized training.

  • Intermediate/advanced Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience with Salesforce.


Education

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$46,988.00 - $122,400.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
