What does an hourly remote operations manager do?

An Hourly Remote Operations Manager oversees daily business operations for a company or team while working remotely and being paid on an hourly basis. Their responsibilities often include managing schedules, coordinating tasks, monitoring performance metrics, and ensuring smooth workflow across remote teams. They may also handle communication between departments, resolve issues as they arise, and implement process improvements. This role requires strong organizational and leadership skills, as well as proficiency with remote collaboration tools.

How does an hourly remote operations manager typically coordinate with distributed teams across different time zones?

An Hourly Remote Operations Manager often works with team members located in various regions, making effective communication and coordination essential. To address time zone differences, managers typically rely on asynchronous communication tools like project management platforms and shared documents, while also scheduling regular check-ins at mutually convenient times. Flexibility, clear documentation, and setting expectations for response times help ensure smooth operations. These practices allow for continuous workflow and foster team cohesion despite geographical distances.

Excellent communication, adaptability, and the ability to motivate remote teams are standout soft skills. These competencies are crucial for ensuring efficient operations, maintaining team productivity, and achieving organizational goals in a remote work environment.

Job description

About Shift5
Shift5 is building the data platform for onboard operational technology (OT). We deliver cybersecurity, predictive maintenance, and compliance capabilities that enable defense and commercial fleets to operate with greater readiness, resilience, and mission assurance.
We are seeking a strategic, mission-aligned Growth Operations & Enablement Manager to build and scale the operational infrastructure that enables our Growth organization to execute at the highest level.
This role sits at the intersection of Sales, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Government Affairs, Capture, Contracts, and Mission Delivery, serving as the operational backbone of the Growth organization. The Growth Operations & Enablement Manager will translate complex technical capabilities into compelling customer messaging, develop scalable sales processes, build enablement content, drive cross-functional initiatives, and ensure our customer-facing teams have the tools, insights, and operational rigor needed to accelerate pipeline growth and improve win rates.
This is not a traditional sales enablement role focused solely on creating collateral. It requires strategic thinking, operational excellence, and the ability to connect multiple organizations around a common go-to-market strategy while driving execution across the Growth organization.
Note: This position requires U.S. citizenship due to federal contract requirements and access to controlled information.
What You'll Do
  • Build and own Shift5's sales enablement strategy, including presentations, capability briefs, battle cards, one-pagers, demos, executive briefing materials, and customer-facing collateral.
  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering to translate technical capabilities into clear, compelling customer messaging and value propositions.
  • Build and maintain standardized sales playbooks by product, customer, mission area, sales stage, and competitive landscape.
  • Serve as the operational bridge between Sales, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Government Affairs, Capture, Contracts, and Mission Delivery.
  • Establish and manage the Growth organization's operating cadence, including pipeline reviews, deal desk gating, account planning, quarterly business reviews, forecast reviews, and executive reporting.
  • Partner with Product Marketing to support industry events, coordinate product demonstrations, and deliver exceptional customer engagement experiences.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives that improve communication, accountability, and execution across the Growth organization.
  • Develop competitive intelligence, customer insights, and market research that strengthen Shift5's market positioning.
  • Build onboarding programs and ongoing enablement for Strategic Account Executives, Deployment Strategists, and other Growth team members.
  • Support proposal and capture efforts by developing reusable content libraries, technical narratives, customer success stories, and best practices.
  • Capture Voice of the Customer feedback and partner with Product and Engineering to influence future product roadmap decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI and automation to improve seller productivity, proposal development, customer engagement, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting that provide leadership with visibility into pipeline health, sales performance, forecast accuracy, and enablement effectiveness.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve Growth processes to support Shift5's long-term scale.
What Success Looks Like
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to translate technical capabilities into customer-facing messaging and enablement materials.
  • Develop standardized sales playbooks and lead the coordination of deal gating meetings to improve consistency, execution, and decision-making across the Growth organization.
  • Partner with Revenue Operations to establish and maintain a consistent operating cadence for pipeline reviews, account planning, forecast management, and QBR's..
  • Improve alignment between Sales, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Government Affairs, and Mission Delivery.
  • Reduce proposal development time through reusable assets, standardized content, and AI-enabled workflows.
  • Improve visibility into pipeline health, forecast accuracy, and Growth performance through executive reporting.
  • Increase sales effectiveness through stronger messaging, enablement, and operational discipline.
  • Become a trusted strategic partner to Growth leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
  • Experience in Growth Operations, Sales Enablement, Revenue Operations, Product Marketing, Sales Strategy, or a related function.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate highly technical products into compelling customer-facing messaging and sales materials.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives across Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and executive leadership.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience developing sales playbooks, enablement programs, and go-to-market strategies.
  • Experience creating executive presentations, customer-facing collateral, and competitive intelligence.
  • Experience building operational processes and driving organizational execution.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, high-growth, highly collaborative environment.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting defense technology, cybersecurity, SaaS, or government contracting organizations is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Monday, Gong, Highspot, Seismic, Clari, or similar enablement platforms is preferred.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or Intelligence Community customers is preferred.
  • Expected travel: 10-15 %.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation & Benefits:
  • Base Salary: $145,000-$165,000
  • Bonus program and equity in a fast-growing startup
  • Competitive salary and stock options in a fast-growing startup
  • Employer-paid medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Health Savings Account with annual employer contributions
  • Life Insurance
  • Uncapped paid time off policy
  • Flexible work & remote work policy
  • Tax-deferred public transit benefits with Metro SmartBenefits (DC/MD/VA)
