What does an hourly remote operations manager do?

An Hourly Remote Operations Manager oversees daily business operations for a company or team while working remotely and being paid on an hourly basis. Their responsibilities often include managing schedules, coordinating tasks, monitoring performance metrics, and ensuring smooth workflow across remote teams. They may also handle communication between departments, resolve issues as they arise, and implement process improvements. This role requires strong organizational and leadership skills, as well as proficiency with remote collaboration tools.

How does an hourly remote operations manager typically coordinate with distributed teams across different time zones?

An Hourly Remote Operations Manager often works with team members located in various regions, making effective communication and coordination essential. To address time zone differences, managers typically rely on asynchronous communication tools like project management platforms and shared documents, while also scheduling regular check-ins at mutually convenient times. Flexibility, clear documentation, and setting expectations for response times help ensure smooth operations. These practices allow for continuous workflow and foster team cohesion despite geographical distances.

To thrive as an Hourly Remote Operations Manager, you need strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, typically supported by experience in operations management or a related field. Job description

Job Description
A bit about this role
  • You'll join our Agency Operations & Partnerships team, the group behind the growth and distribution operations that have made Devoted the fastest-growing Medicare Advantage plan in the country.
  • As a Senior Manager, you'll drive cross-functional initiatives across agency onboarding, compliance analysis, and partnership enhancements - solving problems as they surface and turning the fixes into scalable, repeatable solutions.
  • This is an operator role first: you'll take ambiguous, cross-functional problems, scope them, build a plan, align stakeholders without direct authority, and drive to completion.
  • You'll support multiple workstreams rather than owning a single queue, so you'll thrive here if you're energized by new problems more than by running the same process repeatedly.

Responsibilities and Impact will include
  • Own a portfolio of projects spanning agency onboarding, compliance analysis, and partnership enhancements - solutioning for whatever comes up on behalf of our agency partners.
  • Scope, plan, and lead cross-functional initiatives from problem identification through implementation and adoption, managing the work in JIRA.
  • Design scalable processes that flex across onboarding, compliance, and partnerships as the business evolves, and drive adoption of new workflows across teams.
  • Partner with Sales, Compliance, Legal, and Partnerships leadership to identify operational pain points and translate them into structured projects with clear timelines and owners.
  • Conduct compliance-related analysis supporting agency onboarding and ongoing partner management, flagging risks and partnering with Compliance and Legal to resolve them.
  • Support the agency and sub-agency onboarding process, including pre-contracting activities, to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant completion at scale - and serve as the escalation resource for complex onboarding issues.
  • Track project status, risks, and outcomes in JIRA and Looker, and report progress and insights to leadership
  • Assist with relationship management efforts for our top 40-50 agency partners, supporting regular cadence meetings and touchpoints as needed..

Required skills and experience
  • Experience in Medicare Advantage or health insurance operations, ideally in a fast-paced or high-growth environment.
  • 5-7+ years in project management, operations, or program management, with a track record of increasing scope and responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional projects from scoping through implementation, including influencing and aligning partners without direct authority.
  • Advanced experience with project management tools (JIRA or similar) and comfort analyzing data, reports, and dashboards to spot trends and inform decisions.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and sound judgment on when to escalate versus resolve independently, while managing multiple competing priorities.

Desired skills and experience
  • Experience managing external partnerships (high-touch or strategic accounts), PMP or similar certification, and hands-on work with BI tools such as Looker.
