Job description

The Opportunity:

We have an immediate opening for a Temporary Archaeological Field Technicianto work on survey projects near Reno, Nevada (with possibility of working throughout Nevada and other surrounding states), reporting to our Salt Lake City office.


What We Offer:

  • Compensation -This position is paid on an hourly basis between $22 - $26 per hour, depending on experience and education. If performing services for Federal projects subject to SCA rates, you will be paid the prevailing wage rate or the GSA contracted SCA rate, which includes fringe benefits based on the applicable Wage Determination for the locality of the particular project. Per diem, which is $68 per day for hotel-based projects and $120 per day for camping-based projects, will be provided for all non-local fieldwork. Logan Simpson will provide single-occupancy hotel rooms for all hotel-based projects.
  • Benefits - For eligible temporary staff members, Logan Simpson provides benefits such as a retention bonus program, a $150 field gear stipend, paid sick leave, and eligibility for a healthcare program through ACRA (American Cultural Resources Association).

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Participating in pedestrian archaeological surveys as a crew member, under the supervision of a field director or crew lead, throughout the Great Basin and/or the Southwest.


What You'll Bring:

  • Education and/or experience in the Great Basin or Southwest.
  • Ability to identify archaeological artifacts and features.
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures and in remote locations (camping is a possibility).
  • Ability to walk up to 10 miles per day over steep terrain for extended periods of time.
  • Willingness to work field sessions up to 8 days in a row.
  • The ability to work out-of-town.
  • Proficiency with electronic devices such as smart phones and tablets for digital data collection (iOS operating system experience a plus).
  • Ability to work cooperatively with crew members and supervisors is a must.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Residence in or near Reno, Nevada.
  • Completion of an accredited field school.
  • Bachelor's degree (in process or complete) in Anthropology or Archaeology.
