Hourly Rbt Training information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Hourly Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), and why are they important?

To thrive as an Hourly Registered Behavior Technician, you need a high school diploma (or equivalent), completion of a 40-hour RBT training, and certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Familiarity with data collection systems, behavior tracking software, and implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) protocols is essential. Strong communication, patience, and adaptability are vital soft skills for effectively supporting clients with behavioral needs. These competencies ensure accurate data reporting, effective therapy delivery, and positive client outcomes in behavioral health environments.

What are some common challenges new hourly RBTs face when starting out, and how can they overcome them?

New hourly Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) often face challenges such as adapting to individualized client needs, managing time effectively between sessions, and consistently implementing behavior intervention plans. Building strong communication with supervising Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and seeking feedback can help address uncertainties. Additionally, keeping detailed session notes and participating in ongoing training are key strategies for overcoming initial hurdles and growing in the role.

What is hourly RBT training?

Hourly RBT training refers to the structured instruction required to become a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), which is typically measured in hours. The Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) requires candidates to complete a minimum of 40 hours of RBT training, covering topics such as behavior reduction, data collection, and professional conduct. This training can be completed online or in-person, at the trainee's own pace, and is a crucial step before taking the RBT certification exam. Hourly RBT training ensures that individuals are well-prepared to assist in implementing behavior analysis services under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

Where do RBT's make the most money?

Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) tend to earn higher wages in regions with a higher cost of living and greater demand for behavioral health services. Urban areas and states with more extensive autism support programs often offer higher pay rates, especially for those with specialized skills or experience. Salary can also increase with additional certifications and experience working in clinical or school settings.

What is the difference between Hourly Rbt Training vs Certified Rbt?

Hourly Rbt Training provides the necessary education hours to qualify for the RBT certification exam. Once certified, the Rbt can work directly with clients under supervision. The training is a preparatory step, while being a Certified Rbt allows for independent practice in ABA therapy settings.

The Floating RBT will provide flexible support across multiple settings and learners, acting as a "go-to" technician for last-minute coverage needs (reroutes), planned absences, launches, or support sessions during their designated float hours.
This individual will work closely with clinical and operations leadership to ensure quality service delivery and support for both learners and staff, while also gaining valuable experience across a variety of learners and clinical settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities - 1:1 Coverage & Float Duties

  • Build rapport and form strong working relationships with a broad range of learners and families in the assigned area or region.

    • Assisting with learner transition times and covering breaks for other RBTs.
    • Assist with administrative duties that support overall center functioning, such as greeting families and maintaining a welcoming center environment.
    • Depending on your shift, you may be required to open or close the center independently, following established protocols.
    • Other operational duties as assigned.
  • Support BCBAs by assisting with:
    • Running skill-based and functional assessments under supervision.
Probing new skills or running treatment protocols.
    • Assisting in the development or revision of treatment plans, data sheets, and training tools.
    • Participating in staff training or providing peer support to newer RBTs.
    • Providing supervision alongside a BCBA for training purposes, or delivering independent supervision for learners whose funding sources permit mid-level supervision.
    • Other clinical duties as assigned.
Compensation:
  • Paid regular hourly RBT rate during all scheduled float hours.
  • $2/hour bonus on top of base pay for any hours spent actively providing direct 1:1 learner coverage during float time.
Qualifications:
  • Active Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification.
  • Open availability during scheduled float shifts with the flexibility to travel locally for in-home sessions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to support a wide range of learners and staff.
  • Passion for the field of ABA and a growth-oriented mindset.
  • Willingness to travel between center and in-home locations as needed.
  • No disciplinary action against the employee including written warnings for attendance or non-conversions must be maintained before attaining and while holding the position.
