Position Summary

Want to make a difference in someone's life? Responsible and caring individual needed to mentor and provide support to individuals with developmental disabilities at their job sites, and job development for individuals seeking employment in the Los Angeles County area.
We have the following positions open in the Antelope Valley:
  • Palmdale - Availability Sunday - Saturday from 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM
  • Lancaster - Availability Sunday - Saturday from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Starting Rate $24.00/hour. Plus mileage and cell phone reimbursement + bonus incentives for job placements $100-600 (prorated)

In the Employment Coach role, you will be support someone with:
  • Job development, including resume building, practice interviews, learning new employability skills

Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
  • The Employment Coach is responsible for carrying out all directives that come from the Support Manager, their Director of Services, Chief Executive Officer, and Board of Directors. The highest priority is to ensure all IRI persons served service and support needs are met.
  • The Employment Coach provides mentorship to the people we serve. Their main goal is to ensure they are providing the best services possible, including a priority focus on health, safety, and quality of life services.
  • The Employment Coach will be skilled in providing job development and on-the-job supports, that is guided by PBIS and Instructional Support Strategies. Their main goal is to assist the individual and their circle of support in securing a competitive integrated job that is in line with their skills and talents.
  • The Employment Coach will support their manager in gathering information during their supports that lead to meaningful and Individualized Support Plans (ISP) for the people we serve.
  • The Employment Coach will utilize digital tools such as Zoom, online learning platforms, and online job searching to meet the needs of each individual’s long-term employment goals.
  • The Employment Coach will ensure that strong and effective business relationships with employers and volunteer sites are maintained.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Two years of college or equivalent experience preferred but not required.
  • Job development and on-the-job support experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience supporting people with disabilities preferably in community integrated settings (plus
    any additional experience).
  • Strong organization, communication and writing skills. Must be proficient in the use of computers and online platforms as some services are provided remotely.
  • Positive behavior support training experience preferred.
  • Commitment to full inclusion of all persons with disabilities.
  • Commitment to integrated employment for all persons with disabilities.
  • Commitment to self-advocacy and person-centered planning.
  • Flexible availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
A comprehensive paid training program is provided at the time of hire and an ongoing basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential functions of the job are denoted. The Employment Coach assumes the following responsibilities under the direction of the Support Manager and in collaboration with other members of the leadership team.
  • Understands and practices IRI’s mission and embraces person-centered values.
  • Demonstrates respectful and dignified interaction and communication with IRI persons served, stakeholders (such as co-workers, employers, family members, community members) and IRI colleagues.
  • Assumes competence and builds esteem in all interactions with IRI people served.
  • Implement a normalized community integrated employment focused service.
  • Develop integrated work schedules.
  • Find integrated work settings and develop competitive employment placement.
  • Provide encouragement for meaningful employment related activities to the person served.
  • Conduct frequent job site analysis - pre, during and post-employment.
  • Implement adaptation strategies and devices based upon individual need.
  • Provide typical and specialized healthcare needs (medication, hygiene, toiletry, feeding) as needed.
  • Implement individual service plan goals and SMART objectives.
  • Monitor positive behavior strategy system and plans.
  • Conduct task analysis and demonstrate data-based training decisions.
  • Completes all required documents: eRSP daily care notes, clocking in/out, maintaining up to date employee personnel file, etc.
  • Attends and completes staff development training and attend trainings as assigned.
  • Communicate important updates regarding IRI person served to supervisor, circle of support,
    stakeholders, etc.
  • Dresses professionally and/or appropriately for tasks that are done with person supported (see dress code policy).
  • Demonstrate proper emergency strategies.
  • Contact and report emergencies to the Support Manager, as necessary.
  • Collaborates with individual served and supported, Lead Employment Coach, Support Manager,
    and circle of support to complete customized employment activities for job development.
  • Contact prospective employers and facilitate job application for participants.
  • Shadow and train other coaches with a specific individual you support.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Support Manager, Director of Services, and CEO.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
In general, the following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • During an eight-hour workday, the employee may sit, stand, and walk for varying periods of time. The amount of sitting, standing, and walking will fluctuate depending on the needs of the person served.
  • During the workday, the employee may occasionally bend and stoop, climb stairs, reach above shoulder level, balance, push, pull, and move throughout office or community settings.
  • During the workday, the employee may occasionally lift items weighing up to ten (10) pounds.
  • During the workday, the employee may occasionally carry items weighing up to ten (10) pounds.
  • The employee is required to use both hands for at least a portion of the day, with or without reasonable accommodation, for tasks such as typing, writing, and using computers/mobile devices.
  • The employee is required to have sufficient visual and hearing capacity, with or without assistive devices, to perform essential job functions and communicate effectively.
  • The employee is required to drive an automobile to meet the functions of job responsibilities.
